In case when you're able to enter subsidy code to the phone there is an easy and FREE way to get your AT&T (Cingular) phone unlocked for international use or use on another GSM network.

Simply call 1-(916)-843-4685, that's AT&T's international support line, you have to tell them you are going to be traveling overseas or to Europe where you are going to need to use one of their foreign sim cards. They are going to ask you why your going there, make something up, but they have to feel convinced your actually traveling.

Unlock codes cost anywhere from $25 - $35 online, this is a free and legit way to do it! If your selling a Cingular phone on eBay, unlock it first. It will enhance the product power as T-Mobile customers can purchase the phone as well.
The process of getting unlock codes from At&t will become much simpler. With a few exceptions (Nokia is the main one), customer service will be able to simply enter the IMEI into an internal tool to provide the unlock code for virtually any GSM phone whether or not purchased from At&t and even for the older AT&T Wireless devices. More info will be forthcoming and some customers may still be required to provide proof of purchase. This will be a radically new process because most CS reps will be able to provide the subsidy unlock code without having to send unlock request forms and possible delays.
