Member: 48893 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 17 | For Mmc Formatting Files in your MMC are stored in multiple blocks. So if you format it using a 16K block, the space used will be 16K even if the size of your file is just 1K. Most MMC’s come preformatted with a 16K block and this wastes a lot of space. First thing you need to do is to get a card reader, they are quite cheap now. 1. Connect the card reader to your PC and copy all your files in the MMC to computer disk. But before you do that, in a Windows explorer window – go to tools – folder options and enable viewing of all hidden files. 2. Format the MMC using command line "format" and use the /A=size option in DOS. If you don’t know DOS, you can use Disk Management in the Adminstrative Tools to format the MMC, or right-click and format. Make sure you select FAT file system. For a 256MB MMC, the smallest block you can use is 4K, for a 128MB - 2K, for a 64Mb - 1K and for a 32MB - 512Bytes. (Note: You cannot use the phone function "format MMC" to do this. This just clears the memory and you do not have the option of changing the block size.) 3. Copy all the original files back to the MMC. Now you will find that you will have more space. Taking an average of 10KB saved per file, even if you have 500 files, you will get 5000KB (ie about 4.7MB) of extra space. To summarize - File Space + Free Space +Wastage = Total MMC Size (constant). Therefore, reducing wastage will you give more space for files. Gains will be much higher if you have a large MMC and its almost full up. USMAN JAVED |

Member: 48893 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 17 | T 68 hidden games Hidden treats in your Ericsson T68 The next time your Ericsson phone pauses, it may be waiting for you to punch in that secret code. Thanks to CNET readers who alerted us to it, hidden games have been discovered in the Ericsson T68. These surprises--commonly known as Easter eggs--are launched after the correct sequence of keys is inputted at the right moment. So far, three additional games and a secret message have been unveiled within the standard onboard games Erix, Q, Tetris, and Ripple. If you unearth more gems, do keep us informed. Developers have long hidden entertaining nuggets of code in their software and on Web sites for you to ferret out. Called Easter eggs in computer parlance, these hidden treats are usually hard to stumble across by accident. Usually, you can trigger the eggs only with a complex combination of keystrokes or mouse movements. When contacted, a Sony Ericsson Singapore spokesperson professed to know nothing of the Easter eggs in the T68, but promised he would get back to us with more information. A caveat: While keying in random numbers, in search of other secrets, the phone auto-restarted on us. So have fun, but at your own risk! Here are the codes: Secret Activation procedure Comments 1. Snake game Enter the Erix game. At the splash screen where the lines appear to form the word "Erix", key in "123". Snake requires no introduction to mobile phone aficionados. You control a moving line, the "snake", and go chomping after little red dots. 2. "Arrange the squares" game Enter the game Q. At the splash screen where the letter "Q" appears, key in "3*5". When you start the game, you see a four-by-four grid with 15 numbered squares. There is a space for you to move the squares into. The objective is to line the squares from "1" to "15" in the shortest time possible. 3. "Bigger or smaller" game Enter the game Ripple. At the splash screen where the title appears, key in "654456". You see a poker card on the screen. Guess whether the next card is higher or lower by pressing "up" and "down". One point for each correct answer. Score goes back to zero for every wrong answer. 4. Secret message Enter the game Tetris. At the splash screen where the bricks start falling, press "397". A simple but thoughtful message appears, then the falling bricks fade back in and Tetris continues. USMAN JAVED |

Member: 48893 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 17 | mobile virus The first ever computer virus spread by mobile phones has been sent to anti-virus firms. No infections have been reported and worm is harmless but it proves that mobiles are at risk from virus writers. The worm, known as Cabir, infects phones and devices running the Symbian operating system. Anti-virus firms are divided on whether it will open the floodgate to similar viruses. “It is a milestone in timeline of viruses but technically is not special,” said Graham Cluley, a senior technology consultant at Sophos Anti-virus. When the infected file is launched the mobile phone’s screen displays the word “Caribe”. Every time the mobile phones is turned on, the worm will launch itself and scan the area for other phones to infect, sending a copy of itself to any it finds. Because the worm requires Bluetooth technology to travel, it is geographically constrained to radius of about 30 meters. Then it is dependent on someone having Bluetooth turned on within that range. And as a final **** to its progress, any inspecting phone user in the vicinity would have to accept the virus, which would be preceded by a warning that the source of the file unknown. |

Member: 48893 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 17 | phone security Nokia has recently confirmed that some of its Bluetooth-enabled cell phone are vulnerable to “bluesnarfing”, in which an attacker exploits a flaw to read, modify and copy a phone’s address book and calendar without leaving any trace of the intrusion. Nokia said that a bluesnarf attack might happen in public places, if a device is in the visible mode and the Bluetooth functionality is switched on. Nokia will not be will not be releasing a fix for its devices in the near future because the attacks are limited to “only a few models”. The company is advising customers in public places to set their phones to invisible or switch the Bluetooth functionality off. USMAN JAVED |

Member: 48893 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 17 | How to reformat Nokia 7650/3650/6600/7610 If you want to restore your Nokia 7650 back to factory state, ie. remove all applications, settings, user files and set all options to default, enter *#7370# code on main Phone screen. This will completely format your Nokia 7650. The device will reboot and it will be as "new" as straight from the box. Formatting takes some time (up to several minutes). Do not touch anything during the process! I recommend connecting your 7650 to a charger before formatting to ensure that your battery doesn't get empty in the middle of formatting. |
