Philips CDC3 Security Code

Wonder if anyone can help.

I brought a 2003 Astra with the above CD changer, but was told it was faulty.

I tried plugging in the CD Changer and it came up CDC Safe, I pressed and held the 'source' button as instructed, but it didn't 'beep' as the instruction manual suggested it would, so I was unable to enter the code (which I do have). The radio cassette head unit its self works fine.

I'm not sure if this is actually a fault or whether a previous owner has perhaps made a mess of entering the security code and ended up 'locking' the cd changer.

Can this somehow be fixed or reset? If so, any ideas on how to do this?

Thanks
