F266 Firmware access
 

Hello

New Here so i'll start off by saying hello :)

I bought fido's new f266 slider phone a couple weeks ago and I was wondering if someone has managed to dump/has a copy of the f266(canadian/american) firmware?

if not has a method either through the usb/or through bluetooth to dump it?

I've managed to unlock it already but I would like a copy of it.

Im interested into what commands/debugging menu(s) it has. I've tried the samsung codes and through that I've managed to unlock the phone but I want to delve deeper into it and play around with my phone.

edit- if this is in the wrong section, Im sorry wasnt really sure where this should go.

Most software I've found dosnt support the f266 though im not surprised since its a new phone.

How did you manage to unlock yours, because I just got one too, and I'd really like to unlock it so that I can use MP3 ringtones! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

Oh never mind. Apparently I don't need to unlock it, but rather "unbrand" or "debrand" it to do that! :P

how'd you unlock it? i have a phone here that got Sp lock after eeprom reset..

Its easy to do, esspically when you know the code to reset the network Lock.

First do a eeprom reset - it will delete all your settings so consider this fair warning

*7465625*77*00000000*00000000# you will get a SP code personalized which will set the SP lock to 8 zeros (note there are eight 0s there)

*7465625*638*00000000*00000000# you will get a Network code personalized which will set the network lock to 8 zeros (note there are eight 0s there)

#7465625*638*Code# = Disables Network lock

There and now the SP lock and network lock is gone. You may have to have the network lock locked before you can lock the SP lock. I locked it and then unlocked it after removing the SP lock.

After you try it post here so others can see if it works.

sbmotoracer, I have a samsumg f266 aslo from fido. i am trying to unlock it and use it for tmobile in nyc. Can you give me the steps to unlock it?

punch into your phone these numbers and you will unlock it. Though make sure you save your contacts,etc to your sim card or write them done as you will be reseting your phone to factory defaults.

each line you type in will give some indication that something(read last post as to what) has occurred. There you're phone will be unlocked and ready to go.

I've also managed to get ringtones onto the phone.

It involves that you

A- know how to transfer music to your phone (via bluetooth,usb,memory card)
B- have MiniCommander java version on your phone
- To download and install onto your phone go to or to save yourself the trip type wap.GetJar.com into the phones internet browser -> Quick Download -> enter Quick Download Code 36037 and your phone will install it automanically

The way this works is because the phone allows java to access the phones internal "downloaded songs" folder IE the place where the phone installs its ringtones as well as allowing access to your regular song folders you can copy songs from one folder to another.

Do so by

1) first starting up MiniCommander. You will see a split screen both showing /images/ , /musics/ , /others/ , and so on and on the other side the exact same thing.

2) on the left side scroll down to musics and press the ok( play/pause button) on the phone. You should see all the songs that you have internally stored on the phone.

3) press the left hand side button (right next to the play/pause button) and you will see that you are in the right side pannel.

4) from there scroll down to "sounds" and then to "downloaded songs". this is where the phone stores its downloaded ringtones.

5) press the left handed button again and you will be on the left hand side again. Scroll up/down to the song that you want as your ringtone and press 5. MiniCommander will ask if you want to copy the song into your downloaded songs folder. Press yes or the play/pause button and it will copy over.

There you've got a new ring tone that you didnt have to dowload to put on your phone. The same process also works for uploading images the only diffrence is instead of going to "sounds" and then "downloaded songs" go to "images" and then "downloaded images".

If you have any problems post em up here, though post as well what part your having problems with as well so I know where to give you a hand with.

i tried to install MiniCommander on my phone after transferring it from my pc
it didnt seem to work
is it possible to install this way? or must i download it from my mobile browser to install it?

To install games/any app on the phone, it has to be download off the "air"... IE the phone has to download it itself. If you hit the menu button when your in fido's internet browser, option 1 is "go to url". from there you can type in google's website and google MiniCommander and it'll give you the same links that are posted before.

Im hoping I can find a way around having to download through the phone but so far no such luck, thats why Im hoping someone has the firmware for the phone. I can look for weaknesses/ mod the firmware to allow ringtones, games from the memory card,etc.

It seems like the f266 requires the ringtone to be DRM'd before it will accept it as a valid ringtone... To get around this very minor inconvinance, the software below in Server mode (creates a drm'd ringtone on your computer so your phone can be download off it) will sign it for you.

Hi. I just purchased the Samsung F266 from Fido. I tried accessing the wap.getjar.com site but it won't let me unless I have a dataplan. I don't want to pay for a dataplan just to access this site. Are there any other choices to install custom ring tunes? Thanks.

seems new pc studio can see the downloaded folder... could try sending it that way though i dont know how the phone chooses where to store the file. If you can can you try sending a DRM <post above to see how to drm it> and transfer the file through NPS?

if it works then no need to dowload minicommander, if not then we're out of luck

And I don't have my sim card plugged in. What am I doing wrong?

You need to have your sim card in the phone for this to work.
