Question Sending SMS with AT commands, SGH-A800

I've got my phone setup on a serial cable and I'm able to issue certain AT commands.

However, whenever I try to send an SMS using +CMGS all that I can see on the phone itself is a blank message. Reading the message with +CMGR I can see some of the message but the end looks corrupted. I can read other messages on the phone fine. Looking at a message written to storage using +CMGW all I see is a blank message with the correct destination number. If I go to edit the message, the phone pops up a message saying "using unicode".

Does anyone know where I'm going wrong.

AT+CSCS? returns UCS2
AT+CSCS=? returns +CSCS: (1-16)
AT+CSMP? returns +CSMP: 16,167,0,255

I've tried changing around these settings but nothing solves the problem.

Any ideas?
