SGH J600 Help Needed Please

Hi
Hope someone can help.
My Aunt has a Samsung SGH J600 which appears to have stopped working, wont power up, changed battery, no power! In itself this isn't a problem, but she tells me that there are some texts on the phone from her late Husband, which she would like to have, apparently he used to send her poems while he was away on business
Is it possible to plug the phone into a PC and read the Texts stored on the internal memory, or is that dependant on the power up?

She's not sure if they were saved to the memory or the SIM. I've popped the SIM card into my phone and it did read several text messages, but not the ones she wanted. I thought they might have been deleted, so bought a cheap SIM card reader, but that turned out to be worthless plastic, as it wasn't PC / SC compatible. Again is it possible to read deleted texts from the SIM using a restore utility if the SIM is still in the phone?

Thanks in advance

No I haven't taken it to anyone yet.
If it can be powered up, could it be read while attached to a pc just in case the texts are deleted?
