English ROM for Samsung Omnia SGH-i900/i908

GrandPrix (i900)
WARNING! FLASHING USING GRANDPRIX DISASTERS

Everyone who wants to upgrade their ROM using GrandPrix please take this VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:

You may kill your phone!

The i900DXHG4_PDA.bin file provided by chamid is the PDA ROM only. Samsung Omnia ROM has 4 different parts:
1. LOADER (also known as EBOOT)
2. PDA
3. CSC
4. PHONE

The disaster is that if you use the i900DXHG4_PDA.bin file incorrectly loaded into any other part rather than PDA, you will destroy that part. Look at the 3rd image attachement to see how I actually destroyed my Phone part using GrandPrix... It's no accident, the program forced me to click the PHONE button to load that .bin file.

THE ENGLISH ROM SOLUTION:

2 Methods

I - Using Official Updater (recommended)

Download the Official updater from here: Download Singaporean i900DXHG4
You will get 3 files:
1. Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 (optional)
2. SamsungModem_xp.zip (Samsung Modem Driver)
3. i900DXHG4 updater_xp.exe (Samsung Omnia Firmware Uupgrade)

Follow the instruction from Samsung.

If you encounter the "Incorrect Software Version" message you can find solution here: Incorrect Software Version

If that still doesn't work, try i900DZHG3, you can download from here: Download i900DZHG3

The latest ROM at the moment is DXHH1 (reconstructed, tested OK): Download i900DXHH1

For other ROMs and how to avoid the "Incorrect Software Version", click here

II - Using GrandPrix (not recommended for beginner)

Update 28 Aug 2008: I found a very comprehensive guide how to update to HH1.

If using the Official updater doesn't work, you may choose this alternative method.

2. download the PDA ROM binary file here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ne0nalozyy2

3. You will get i900DXHG4_PDA.rar, extract it.

3.1 Copy the Grandprix folder to the root dir of your windows XP ex C:\Grandprix then put your image files PDA.bin etc in the Grandprix folder. This way when you click on PDA it will immediately find the file. (suggested by bobsbbq)

4. Run GrandPrix,
4.1 Set the profile to Grandprix LV image (reminded by bobsbbq)
4.2 click the PDA button and browse for i900DXHG4_PDA.bin. Caution: Do not mount the file to the Phone button, otherwise your PDA is doomed, read above warning.
4.3 if the PDA button doesn't detect i900DXHG4_PDA.bin, then you should use Explorer, right click on the file and click "Open With..." and then browse for the GrandPrix program.

5. Click Detect & restart your PDA. The process will be done in bootloader mode, so no ActiveSync required.

NOTE: I do not take responsibility if you destroy your phone function using this guide. You MUST read the whole thread before deciding to use GrandPrix. Goodluck.

THE ORIGINAL THREAD STARTER

Hi guys,

I'm struggling for so many days trying to flash my Omnia ROM into English. Here is what happened.

I bought this PDA online in China. It turned out to be from Philippine. It has SGH-i900 model written on the label under the battery.
The PDA version was i900DZHG1/DZHG1
The ROM version was i900DXHG1, as shown on the "original ROM.jpg" image.

Here are the steps I did before asking for help:

1. I searched all over the Internet using Google. Explored all xda-developers.com and other PDA forums.

2. I found the ROM from Samsung Omnia for SGH-i900 here: http://www.samsungmobile.com/promotion/omnia/index.jsp

3. I tried to flash my Omnia, it says "Incorrect Software Version".

4. I followed the instruction to fix the "Incorrect Software Version" problem here: http://www.modaco.com/content/samsun...x/#entry908015
The numbers worked, I found out the preconfiguration already was Singapore. Tried to reapplied that succesfully, but still "Incorrect Software Version".

5. I found this ROM SGH-i908 from here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/bjfs0b .

The upgrade process worked. But it turned out to be Chinese again. Now it has the following tech details: PDA: i908ZHHG8, as shown on the "i908 ROM.jpg" image

6. I tried to flash the SGH-i900 ROM provided for Singapore again. The same problem.

So HELP! I need your help. It's too time consuming. I already tried my best but it's just not working.

I know people used to cook ROM. Is there any cooked English ROM for this Omnia? If not, does anyone have a software to extract the ROM from the upgrade .exe file and use a custom program to flash the ROM with it?

I should also mention here that I already tried "hard reset" but it's not working at all. It's nearly impossible to hard reset this PDA, and when it finally hard-reset, the "Incorrect Software Version" message still on.

I bricked my Omnia, details are here: English ROM for Samsung Omnia
If you are kind, please help me here:
1. Samsung Omnia i900 SD Download Mode

Quote:
The other way, I found strings of "phone.bin" or "SD download Mode" in eboot.bin.
I think you can try below;

1. copy i900DXHG4_phone.bin into a microSD as "phone.bin"
2. set the microSD and power on your OMNIA

you can try with microSD format FAT16 or FAT32.
And perhaps, entering SD download Mode need some key combination with POWER key.

Good Luck

Yes, it restart itself every few minutes.

I got this problem since the day I bought it about 2 weeks ago. I sent it back to the seller and they did something to make it work fine till now.

The same problem comes back.

I observed the problem and here are the facts.

1. It restart a few seconds after it turn off the screen. That's the power settings.

On batter power: Turn off device if not used for = 40 sec

So about 5 sec after the screen is off, it restart.

If I plug it to USB charging mode or sync mode, it get extremely hot but never restart, because it never turn off (not on battery power).

If I untick "Turn off device if not used for"... it also get extremely hot but never restart. It does drain too much battery, of course.

2. It's abnormally slower than other devices. My father bought 3 HT Diamonds at once. 2 works fine so I can compare them. They have the same firmware, same model, everything is the same, but this one got this problem.

3. It happened like this for both Chinese firmware and English firmware. But when the seller fixed it, they did installed Chinese firmware.
