BROADCOM 2045 Chip

Hi

I have a laptop that has has the Broadcom 2045 chipset the module is a standard acer module.

Is there anyway that I can upgrade the firmware on it? I noticed the anycom 200/250 devices use the same chipset and they constantly supply firmware upgrades current being 2.1.128.0 where mine is currently 2.1.39.73, I heard also there are A2DP bug fixes to the firmware. Hopefully implementing the firmware upgrade I would get better quality through my Sony DR-NX20 Bluetooth headphones as I have to change the registry LineSpeed2 to 126 which is half the quality in order to get smooth playback.

I'm sure some of you people would be able to help!

Much Appreciated

Ade.

Lemme know when you come across such a firmware update, I'm also interested for my MSI dongle. And you're right, with that firmware you ain't gonna get much A2DP streamin', that's for sure...

cheops2006,
I just wanted to warn you that upgrading the firmware with one designed for a different dongle (even if based on the same broadcom chip) will probably make you bluetooth adapter useless. I've done this to my Digicom Bluetooth 2 with EDR dongle which had some 2.1.39.x firmware. I used the firmware for Anycom USB-250, changed it in order to be accepted by the firmware upgrade utility and flashed.
Everything seemed to be ok, the dongle was reporting as Anycome USB-250, but there was no way to pair it with any other bluetooth device.
Fortunately my real Anycom USB-250 arrived the next day.

Think before upgrading the firmware.

Regards.

Exclamation Not a wise idea

I too have an internal laptop BT module - Dell 355. Unless the firmware is release by Dell specificially for the 355, otherwise I won't even try to flash the firmware.

I have the same chipset in both my Dell and Acer notebooks but with different firmware revisions and the Dell works fine in A2DP mode but the Acer doesn't.

I just sent a message to Acer Taiwan explaining this and asking for a firmware upgrade.

Thanks for emailing Acer Taiwan...

I have also sent an email to Acer Europe explaining the same maybe if we can pile on the pressure they will do something, I wish they would just tick Anycom devices inside the laptops this would make it much better.

I really dont wanna buy an external bluetooth as its more convenient packed inside the laptop

Thanks for your help

I didn't get a reply from Taiwain unfortunately.

One things I have noticed although not proved conclusively yet is that if I connect to my headphones (Pulsar 590A) by right clicking on the system tray icon and using quick connect to a previously configured connection then at least sometimes the audio streams perfectly.

Hi,

Ive had a few replies from Acer Europe regarding the issue but as far getting anywhere its proving difficult as they keep saying they cant give me an ETA or access to beta drivers, so I keep sending them a reply saying basically can they confirm they are aware of the issue and that it will be fixed in the next version.

I will keep doing this until I get somewhere with them, On another not I heard that Microsoft Vista supports A2DP and wondered if it works well with Microsoft Stack.

Also on another note I managed to hack support for the Acer Module in the toshiba drivers and it still does exactly the same Stops and Starts/Pauses etc...

Anyway I will keep you updated with my Mission to get a New Acer Firmware.

Thanks

Ade.

Hello
i got a good news for you

i have Acer Aspire 5112 (3100/5100/5110 series) with integrated Broadcom 2045 Bluetooth 2.0 USB Device
firmware before was 2.1.39.73
now it's 2.1.128.251 and i got ANYCOM Blue USB-UHE 200/250

procedure is the same as we do with CSR .dfu file
you need to change VID/PID in .dfu file to your VID/PID and fix checksum
checksum is 4 last bytes from the end
VID/PID is 11-14 bytes from the end
in my case i change them to 0A5C 2101

File from drivers from ANYCOM named 'BTFlasher.EXE'
after start generate 'BtDfuWizard' in temp directory(%TEMP%).
generation is different in case you choose
USB200 or USB250
for USB200 it will be v0A5C_p2111_BCM2045B1_002.001.128_Tecom_0251.dfu file
for USB-250 - v0A5C_p2111_BCM2045B1_002.001.128_Tecom_0250.dfu

A big thanks to lexab65 for the info and files.

This works perfectly A2DP fixed by flashing the new firmware, I have attached the modified firmware for anyone who is having the same problem with an Acer BCM2045 2.0+EDR 0A5C 2101 Module.

I would love to know how you extracted the files from the original firmware update for future reference.

Would you be willing to share the information?

Best

Hi cheops2006
about extracting:
1. first of all you need to download ANYCOM from ftp://drivers.anycom.com/beta/usb200-250/
2. install this drivers and you get shotcut named "ANYCOM USB-200-250||USB-200 and USB-250 Flash Upgrade" to the file "BTFlasher.exe".
3. you run it and go through to DFU Wizard window at this point directory "%TEMP%\BtDfuWizard" with all stuff we need will be created.

!!!!! this is UNTESTED !!!!!!!
dongle VID and PID after firmware update:
Code:
E001 0140 (5C0A 1121) 0001 0102 0001
dongle VID and PID in DFU mode:
Code:
FE01 0040 (5C0A 0020) 0001 0102 0001
!!!!!!end of untested !!!!!!

here is picture with changing VID/PID and checksum
