Im wondering if anyone can help me? I am trying to update the firmware on my Acer 5685 bluetooth module (BCM92045NMD) using windows Vista to work with my motorolla BT Stereo headset but when i try to update it i get an error. I have tried changing the pid etc with the hex editor but still no luck. Also, how to i check the firmware version of my bluetooth module? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Member: 79741 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Here's another "I have such and such BT device and I'm clueless" post... This one is the one that comes with the Samsung Q35 laptop. Surprisingly enough I can use "btwinitialupdate" with it, which is good news. Bad news is the firmware is archaic to say the least. I think I've understood the procedure to modify the Anycom firmware, but I don't have a clue whether this dongle is Class I or II. Google hasn't been very helpful so far. It seems Samsung can't be bothered to share this info either. Any way to determine which class this device is? I've Hex compared the firmwares of the Anycom 200 and 250 with the Dell 355 and the firmware of my dongle searching for the magic clue... but failed. Miserably. |

I'd appreciate if you could let me know if you hear of any updated firmware, or of anybody that managed to update it. I'm not really in the mood, nor do I have the time, to hack Anycom firmwares or for all that hex editing stuff... |

Unfortunately the BT dongle in this laptop is hidden away *** knows where. Is not like the Dell laptops, where is easy to spot. In fact this is one of the most unfriendly designs I've seen on a laptop, second only to Apple. To remove the keyboard assembly there's like a million of flimsy latches. You really need skill and steady pulse not to break everything in the process. Anyway, over the weekend I will dismantle it, find the BT dongle, and check the FCC ID as suggested. I don't want to make an irreversible mistake.

Member: 79741 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Ok, so instead of taking the whole thing apart, I take my chances and flash it with the Class II firmware. I need to make plenty more tests, but so far it pairs with my desktop and my mobile phones, and as far as I can see it "plays nice" with the integrated WiFi NIC (Intel 3945ABG). No funny FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF addresses either. Thank you very much for sharing the information. By the way, don't know if this is old news, but my Widcomm version is 5.1.0.4200 |

Member: 79741 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Hmmm... Another question sprang in my mind. I have a Logitech dongle lying around. If I flash it with the Anycom firmware I assume it will become a normal dongle and lose the HID <> HCI switching hability, correct? |

This looks like the same chipset (and VID/PID) as my IOGEAR, only I have class I. None of the Anycom firmwares will work on it. I hate to say it, but unless you found a way to save your old firmware before you flashed it, you won't be getting it back. I had an external dongle and decided to take a risk of reflashing it (losing $20).
