The problem appears to not be with FTDI or eeprom.

Maybe a problem with the ATmega processor software (doubtful..)

First check the hardware, see what levels you are finding inside there (does the atmega chip recieve VCC? You can find pinout of these processors real easy in google).

Br,

Really I would be surprised if the AVR was physically damaged, these chips are used a lot world wide.

Slightly more likely would be software problems, but again it's not a big posibility.

How did you flash the new ATMEGA? Can you try just a software update on the old unit?

Man, there is no schematic.

Inside the box is an atmega 128 processor, some voltage regulator, ftdi chip and a few passives. It really is not a difficult thing to trace.

Open the box and look inside, if you do not recognise some chips, just put the number from there into google and find the data sheet.

If you spend time working with mobile phone repair then this should be a simple task

Bro!

Look into this picture. Red marked component is Voltage regulator.

It may be on different place or on different side depending of Board manufacturer.
