Do samsung actually fix phones?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I am just curious to other peoples experiences with Samsung repair. Well basically my S4 stopped working from no fault of my own the screen just decided to not work one day lucky enough I was in warranty and Samsung told me to send it out to them to repair. Long story short I get a phone back that has less scuffs on the bezel and is unlocked/unbranded where as the phone I sent was locked. Yet this fixed one still has my original IMEI. What is with this? Yes I am glad I have now a fixed phone but with no screen how the hell was I supposed to back up priceless photos? To be honest I wish I took it to the market and paid £70 to keep them. What on earth gives Samsung the right to do this? A screen repair is just that no need to erase/swap the phone.

For proper service you must visit a service center directly.
Am workin @ samsung. If we take a repair in warranty first of all we take data loss approval from customer .
In your case it may hav been a PCB issue so they could hav replaced ur pcb.
Dont always relay on ur phone, keep ur precious data on cloud storage or a harddrive.
