According to the schematics I have, the U204 is on the opposite side of the board, and nowhere near the components being reflowed here... And a search of the U204 part number tells me it's a pressure sensor IC... So now I'm even more confused.

I don't currently have an S4 board suffering from the "no sim" issue, so I can't try the fix, but it doesn't sound right to me.

The U204 is the Broadcom 20794S1A standalone NFC chip underneath the sim tray flex and emi heat shield.

Look at the picture of Step 15:

What does the NFC chip have to do with the Sim card? Doesn't seem like the right chip to reflow

In the Schematic U204 is on the otherside as the Broadcom Chip, that NFC Broadcom chip is U203 not U204

Are you sure its that IC or that Broadcom Chip and not the sim card connector instead?

Basically what is in the white box? I reflowed both those ICs and Broadcom chip and had the same error. Then on some forum a few people put tape on the Sim card connector so there was more pressure on the connector and the error went away, so I reflowed the Sim card connector and the problem seems to have gone away.

When you reflow that IC chip its very close to the sim card connector and thats why it works.

I looked under a magnifining glass and didn't see any of the pins broken but maybe they were nano cracks and a small reflow fixed the issue.

Because those ICs and Broadcom chip have nothing to do with the sim card.

My schematics are for an i337 where the Broadcom chip is labelled as U204. Sim cards can be NFC enabled. This is 100% the ic that needs to be reflowed/replaced.

You are wrong ... this ( reflow near to flash diode ) work just because is on baseband ic MDM9215 ... the SIM is handled by modem part

I've replaced this NFC chip several times to fix the no sim card error. Believe what you like.

LOL!

I think you are all wrong and its the sim card+sd card connector that needs to be reflowed.

Basically what is in the WHITE RECTANGLE in the above photo.

In other threads people solved their issue by adding tape to apply pressure on that connector. I reflowed that connector and it solved the problem. Before I reflowed both the IC and the Broadcom NFC chip and didn't fix the error.

Why it works when you reflow the IC or the NFC Chip is because its very close to the Sim card connector pins which reflow at lower heat because they aren't surface mount but exposed.

Hi Guys the best is to stop argument and keep repairing that's all. It’s not who is best and right.
