Hardware Repair Series : T610 not charging with pictures and explanation in details

@All

Lately I've been asked by many members to send them pictures I've made over time, some of them you have seen on this board, others elsewhere....

I will from this Monday forward and every new Monday post a new hardware tutorial in this section and make it sticky. So that anyone with questions can make them. After a while they will be moved to the tutorial section of this board, to be keept as reference for the future and new members.

Today I'll take up the T610 Not Charging problem which I've seen lately that many have.

On the T610 like many other Sony-Ericsson phones, the external circuit i.e, charger, headset ect does not have "direct" lines to the internal circuit on the board. But have been seperated by a "matrix" like many maybe know, the solution for 8310 "insert sim" which have been around for quite some while where the same kind of matrix is bypassed by shorts of certain pins.

This fix we are going to do today will take advantage of the same solution, shorting some pins which seems always to get dodgy with time, and specially when the board have waterdamage. It's in my exsperience always the same pins/pads which brake down due to the fact that these pads carry the higest voltage and current on the board due to charging the battery pack. As some of you know water+cobber=nice littel battery, then these pads/pins soon turns into oxidation and corode away

Tools needed for this fix :

1 : Small soldering iron max. 30 watts with SMD tip
2 : Good flux, I recommend ERSA - FMKANC32-005 non-clean cream.
3 : Some 2 mm of cobber wire 0.3 mm
4 : A good stereo micscope or lup with a minimum magnification of 20x
5 : Hot Air station with 4 mm **** tip, Air set=1.5 Heat set=3
6 : Some steady hands

1 : Carefully take away the little matrix down at the connector area, look at the first picture under here where you'll see the position of the matrix. Do it carefully and with enough flux, in order for you to keep as many undamaged solder balls intact for the time you want to mount the matrix back again.

2 : Did you get the matrix of by now ? Good, then we can continue. In the picture below here you will see a picture in 60x magnification of the area we have to work on.

You will now have to make a short between the 2 pads which is cirled in red color and marked C5 and B5. On the T610's I've been working on with this fault, this one was easy quick fix, since it only required a short with a cobber wire. But take care not to destroy any of the other pads since you then have the chnace of loosing headset/flashing ect. Unless you have a new matrix, which not many have, or you have the choice of reballing it !

On other boards with this fault I've been forced to DIG down into to the board with a scalpel and find the lines since those 2 pads was totally coroded away, and then it aint easy anymore !

Hope this helps out some folks. Good luck, and dont blame me for busted boards, do this at you own risk ! IF you bust the board, send me and I'll fix.

And please, do not start any "send me too" posts of any kind, they will be deleted. I do not have it whatever it might be. For your information I use a Novex AP-8 stereo microscope, and pictures posted here is taken with a QX3 Intel (tm) digital toy microscope, you can find those nice little ones on Ebay for around 60 Euro.

Regards

Then you have a faulty Power Module. Change it and all should be ok. Since the charge line goes direct to the power module, this would suggest a faulty Power Module to me since also the lines to the battery goes from Power Module also. As I know of, theres no patch possible between Power Module and Battery !

Or another thing is that your Battery is faulty, try change to a known working one.

Regards
