Warning when unlocking E313

Hi,

this is just a warning to those of you thinking of using the unlock procedure mentioned in many threads within this forum.

As you browse through the forum you will note many threads telling you how to unlock your phone with a *4960* code - dont aske me how to do this - just search the forums and you will find how people say to do it.

Some use any 8 digets in the code - some claim that they generate the numbers via a tool and your IMEI number (I have to say I have downloaded this 'tool' and to me it looks like a random number generator)

Anyhow, of this warning -

I unlocked my phone to a 2.5g Sim, using the details found within this forum, (I accept this was at my own risk and am not blaming anyone) but now can not use the orignial 3G SIM - Camera will not finction on 2G nor will MMS or WAP -

A big word of warning the 4960 code only works to some extent and it looks like you are stuck with a part functioning phone afterwards.

Posters within these forums claim you can unlock your phone back to the 3G card afterwards - I have not found this to be the case!!!

Like I said earlier - I am not trying to blame anyone and accept the risk I took - I just want all of those of you who are considering trying to unlock to a 2g card to understand the potential risk to your phones functions.

BTW - if anyone knows how I can unlock the SIM back to my 3g card please advise - repeating the 4960 function does not work

so you are using the same 8 digit code you put in the first time (instead of the xxxxxxxx) and you cannot go back to the 3g sim ???

is this one that was made before march this year ??

You can't lock it back to a 3g.
Unlocking the sim allows you to phone, use contacts (on some), send SMS (on some). camera works on vodaphone sim.
The unlocking software found everywhere IS a random number generator, as it ONLY generates a password that you could make up yourself (ie 12345678).
Its a bloody useless piece of code.
These phones CAN be unlocked though. If you look at the info (if you bought it in the UK) it states three can provide an unlocking facility after a year of use. this could be the same unlocking procedure that motorola use, but I'm not sure of that. No public unlocking is known.
mark, break the phone and get a refund! Only way you can go back to 3g at present.

Hmm, so you just put the 3g card back in and unlock again?

When I do this I get and message saying please insert correct USIM (or something along those lines)

I did notice that when the 3g card is in at the top of screen, by the signal strength indicator, I have 3 green lights but in a black square. I understand that this means roaming is off. However, as I can access the phone, other than by the emergency function, I can't do anything about this.

Sigh!!!!

I think there is something wrong.
I did about 5 and camera works, but no messages and you cant call from phone book,
but its on 2G not 2.5
Repeat some steps and make sure it displays 2G not 2.5
I bet you, camera will work.

About using 3G again, sorry I dunno this.
