Which is better a BB5Box or a Genie Universal?

Hi everybody,

I wish to inform you that I'm new to this forum.....I found very useful information in this forum and at the end decided to join to seek for advice and as well as to share whenever I can.

Otherwise I'm seeking how to unlock BB5 mobile phone....I came over this website: BB5Box.org and genie-universal.com. Now I'm a bit confuse and would like to know whether both perform the same function or one is better than the other. If anyone can help me on this issue I would be grateful to him/her. Thanks

I have a genie, and some comments about it:
1. first of all genie needs good fbus cables - without them, you'll encounter many problems. But, when right cable is used - it works like a charm, absolutely problem-free.
2. B-phreaks don't act in hurry, and they don't put non fully tested solutions to their products. This of course causes, that updates are not comming every day. But when they come - they work on all constellations. This is another advantage.
3. Bph@co is very nice person, ready to share some technical informations, when customer is curious - next advantage.
4. genie is open platform, infact every solution can be ported onto genie's hardware. For example - I'm during porting my VW/Audi CAN diagnostics software to genie. Of course with limited GUI functionality, but it shows, how genie's platform is flexible.

So, if you are a pro, familiar with phoenix (I was not - many faults of genie / phoenix were caused due to my stupidity) and ready to accept, that the updates will not come every week - genie is for you.

Of cause GENIE is MUCH more better than BB5 Box.
For example Genie Support:
- DCT4+ Direct Unlock ( All models )
- Phoenix FBUS and USB flashing (No need to wait for new 3-party flasher release or so. Genie was first who support n96 & n85).
- BB5 no TP unlocker.
- Open SDK, you can develop own Application.
- Fast Support Server, with Latest firmware.
- Usable with out PC.
- Any many many more

Thanks for all these information..well..I got one nokia 6233 which I flashed using phoenix. But the process of flashing failed and now the phone power on for some scs and then switched off.

On the otherhand I flashed a nokia N70 and unfortunately once again everything went wrong and the phone did not power on anymore. Would the genie be the solution to my problem?? Does the genie flash Dead Phone??

Yes of cause, phoenix support USB dead flashing even FBUS dead flashing.

In case of 6233 you can use USB dead flashing, in case of N70 it depend on firmware version, because old N70 firmware does not support USB dead flashing.

I tried to flash my Nokia 6233 using phoenix after that failure...but the option "Dead Phone" was not available...and still after several attempts, nothing. I'm wondering "Why?".... or should I think of buying a J.A.F or Genie? Please your advice is most welcome..

By the way can the product code of a Nokia Phone limit upgrading from one version to another? I'm asking this cause when I take my product code and check for updates on the site Nokia I got the v5.60 available for my nokia 6233....whereas when I take the product code of the phone of my dad which is a Nokia 6233 to check availability of updates on nokia's website, it shows v5.43 available only...Now the question is: Can I change the product code of my dad via NSS in order to be able to update his firmware with the latest version which is "v5.60"?

Why are you using Phoenix's USB flashing but not Phoenix's Fbus flashing? That's make the different between cracked phoenix/pkd1 on phoenix WITH FLS-5 Fbus flashing on phoenix. Genie is using Phoenix's Fbus flashing.

Yes, you can. But however, if you are using USB flashing, then it will be risky if u killed the phone that doesn't support dead usb flashing.

Best Regards
Alan Tan
