Member: 295065 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 1 | Reading the memory image from S40v3 phones I am trying to extract files from the memory image found in the firmware of Nokia 6280, so I could find hidden settings and move some games to the memory card so they won't take space on the small 7MB internal memory of the phone. But unfortunately, I couldn't get any program to read this image properly. The file system appears to be some sort of extension for FAT12 that allows long file names. I have tried many recovery programs, and even tried restoring the image to a real partition. I also tried to take the files out of the image manually with a hex editor, but the files I'm mostly interested in (JAR files), came out corrupted. However, part of the files inside those JAR's extracted just fine after fixing the archive with Advanced Zip Repair, so I'm quite sure those JAR's aren't encrypted or custom formatted. They are probably just fragmented, so I couldn't just copy them straight from the image. I also tried to find the FAT12 specification so I could understand how fragments work on FAT12 and try again to extract the files with a hex editor, but I didn't find a detailed enough specification. I would appreciate it if someone could take a look at it and try to read this image, or give me some ideas for what else I can do. Here are the files I used: http://lhsite.pimme.nu/nokia/partition_image (4MB) - This is the partition image (like the original image file, but with the BB5 header removed). http://lhsite.pimme.nu/nokia/disk_image (8MB) - This is a whole disk image (with an MBR), made from the partition image using WinImage. Thanks. |
