How to make a cheap T28 Data Cable.....

I needed a data cable for my T28 but was surprised to find the cheapest cable was £24.00. I had a spare T28 flash Cable (£8.00) so investigated if that could be modified to suit.

This mod may work with other Ericsson models but I have only tried the T28.

The PC 9 pin plug is moulded and contains the voltage level shift components, so there is nothing to do at that end. The phone plug end easily comes apart to reveal 4 wires connected as follows:

White Tx Data pin 6
Blue Rx Data pin 7
Red Power pin 11
Black 0volts pin 10

Here is the 3 easy steps to modify the cable:

1 Disconnect pin 9 from pin 11 and leave unconnected.
2 Move the White wire from pin 6 to pin 4
3 Move the Blue wire from pin 7 to pin 5

That's it!

Be warned if you get it wrong you could bu**er the phone (unlikely but possible) use this information at your own risk...
