adding diode for Dongle protection! - GSM-Forum

hi
i got a new box, and i saw in the support the atached picture showing a diode adaed to the dongle for protection!
i already had a dead sws-sag(key not found), that's why i bought the jtag and i don't wanna get the same situation.
should i really add this diode? what does it used for?

what i can't understand is why sagem dongles are so fragile!!

and what about damage doongle this solution didnt repair what can we do please think in a remote solution for this
