The error Loss of IMEI Number is found in Siemens C62.
This bulletin describes the failure, how the faulty unit can be identified and how to avoid and fix the problem.
Failure description
In the faulty C62 phone the IMEI number has disappeared from the memory. This has occurred in the AUTO
SIM-lock variants, after the SIM card has been inserted in the phone the first time. If then the phone power is
shut down too early, the phone loses the original IMEI number and automatically generates a default IMEI
number 099999-00-123456-0 if the SIM-lock integrity is not valid.
These cases have occurred for instance in variants like:
- S30880-S6880-U201 (Nordic retail)
- S30880-S6880-U916 (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania)
The first start with SIM-card in C62 causes a lot of filesystem-initialization. Especially in the phones, which are
customized to AUTO SIM lock, the first start is crucial. If the power is switched off during initialization by
removing battery, integrity of SIM-lock system may suffer.
The IMEI number read by phone software is returned using protected SIM-lock system, which will return default
IMEI 099999-00-123456-0 if SIM-lock integrity is not valid.
Identifying faulty unit
A unit is affected by this failure, when it shows IMEI 099999-00-123456-0.

How to avoid the failure in the workshop by correct SIM card- and power handling
When inserting the SIM-card to AUTO SIM-lock variant for the first time, press the power on and wait 2 minutes
(add SIM code if needed). It is absolutely forbidden to switch off the phone or remove the battery during this
time! After this it is safe to turn off the power by pressing “NO” button, if it is needed to shut down the phone.
After every change of SIM LOC settings, wait 2 minutes till the power is switched of for the first time after
changes (add SIM code if needed). It is absolutely forbidden to switch off the phone or remove the battery

Repair action for the failure
The failure cannot be fixed within the scope of repair authorization of an LSP. Therefore LSP has to exchange
the board a second time within the original repair of the C62.
LSP then has to return such a spoiled C62 board for f.o.c. repair and return to the CSC, Bocholt. It is assumed
that such repair errors are being minimized from now on. However, when CSC realizes a significant number of
returns type “spoiled C62 board”, it reserves the right to charge the LSP for the repair.
NOTE! It is important to attach the IMEI label in addition and in accordance with the known package instructions
(see SB_1502.doc and SI_1103.doc).
In SI_1103.doc the LSP is asked to complete the DiagCode for the defective board. Please enter here
DiagCode = 65000.
