| Need help repairing dead S45 after flash First of all - yes, I searched the forum archive. This is what I've done with the phone: 1) flashed my S45 to S45i (phone worked OK) 2) applied many flash patches (phone still worked OK) Then I wanted to revert to my original soft (=S45; I made a flash backup shortly after I bought the phone long time ago) so I flashed my phone with this backup flash. The result is: phone completely dead (I don't even get a beep when trying to switch it on, just nothing happens). I can't flash it again because when programs say to press the power switch shortly - I press it but nothing happens. Therefore I can't use the flashing software. I'd be grateful if you had any idea what to do. Regards. |

| Thanks for your fast answer! ![]() I've read that www, the problem is - software wants me to power on the phone to initiate communication, but as I said before - I'm pressing the power button but there's no reaction, therefore I can't upload the flash to the phone. But something is actually happening when I'm pressing this power btn, because I noticed that the "R" icon is blinking in Siemens S45/Me45 software - here's the screenshot: http://intc.webpark.pl/gsm.gif. Unfortunately, this is not enough to start the flashing process. |

| Try to use V_klay (flasher screen) to flash your phone. Before starting take off the battery and there reput it. Then try to start flashing by short pressing red button (like in patching) or if not successfull by connecting phone to calbe at the right time when advise blinks. Bye Lalo |

| Still can't flash it even with V_klay... looks like there's no way. But it's interesting why it happened - I just downgraded it (with original soft!) and it's dead... |

| I'm using service cable with auto-ignition. I also have that original which came with the phone, but it's useless for this I heard, so I don't use it. I'll try but really nothing seems to work. Thanks for your replies. |

| There's no switch on that cable, it's something like this: http://www.gsm-technology.com/index....,id_pr,27.html But I've used it to flash the phone many times before and it worked fine. |

| Ok, cable is good. You can try to use FREIA, but I think start flashing problem will not be solved. Or you can try to give a spike of charger power to PIN1(-) and 3(+), modifing data cable connector, when flasher is asking you to press red button. Last edited by lalo.lerry; 07-18-2004 at 07:44. |

| The phone is working again .Surprisingly, it was the cable what caused the problem, particularly that "auto-ignition" feature. Looks like "auto-ignition" does not function properly when the phone software is damaged. You were right that it should be turned off. It was "on" all the time in this cable. So - I cut-off the wire from pin 2 (which is responsible for starting battery charging process) so now there are only 3 connected: 1 ground and 2 data wires. Uploaded the software and now all OK. I' m happy for you ![]() Quote:
What a strange feature "auto-ignition" was: first of all because PIN2 is no more used in x4x series, but only in x2x and x3x (charging controll is integrated in + and - wires), second because in all schematic I have autoinigtion is always related to PIN3, and third it started giving problem (=turned on) only after bad flash, not before. BTW, you haven't told us why you wanted to go back to S45? What did you miss of it in S45i?

It's not because of the features of course - I know S45i is better, but I am thinking about a new phone and it is often hard to convince people to buy a modified one - even if it's better, they're often afraid that something will be working wrong etc. The problem is - with this S45 you could do virtually everything by modifying the firmware and I'm afraid it will be hard to find another phone that is so easy to customize - maybe a newer Siemens... we'll see . It's really a good phone.

| I can understand you well, I too think sometime about buying a new phone, but also for me it has to be "customizable" as deeper as this, that is nearly impossible! Perhaps S65, I'm waiting to touch it.. |
