Siemens anounces "internet-updates" for mobiles Since months Siemens is promising firmware-updates for the popular phones "S45" and "ME45" in their manuals, which can be downloaded and installed by the user himself. Nothing so far from Siemens, but right now (maybe coz of CEBIT) Siemens makes the move: PR manager Katrin Braun states to the "Frankfurter allgemeinen Zeitung" that there will be an upgrade for the phones to GPRS class 8 (52 kbit/s) in near future. Another update will be released later on, which enables the user to read/write emails via a real POP3/SMTP client. The firmware update can be installed via the datacable that comes with every phone. Until now you had to go - at least officially - to a Siemens Service Partner to get your firmware update. This service is provided by Siemens and Ericsson for free, Nokia users have to pay for it. In the future it will even be possible to run a firmware upgrade via the infrared port of the phone, as promised by Braun: "If the user wants new functions for his phone, he can find them on the web and pay for them." Still not clear what this cryptic statement wants to tell us. According to rumours, Siemens will come up with an "S45i" at the CEBIT, which will support Java 2 Micro Edition. Updates of old phones to this standart will not be for free, just like Siemens is already doing with the update SL45 --> SL45i. jesus i am bored @ work..... |

Member: 10637 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | S45 to S45i update? I think it will be possible but paying to Siemens an unknown (by now) amount. According to the S45 to SL45 update I think the S45 has the needed hardware and memory capacity to store the update? |
