Hey guys,

I have a Siemens M55 phone. I would like to unlock it. Now here are my questions:

1. How would i tell its locked without putting another sim card in it?

2. Would it be cheaper if I unlocked it myself or went to a repair shop and they did it for me ( I checked online, my nearest repair shop says $35 Canadian, and I could buy the unlock cable for less the 20$)

I'm not sure if this is a way of knowing if my phone is locked or not, but i type *#0606# and i click info and all of them are unbarred except one. It goes like this:

Unbarred
Unbarred
unbarred
*** *** *** (9 digit number)
Unbarred

Does this mean its locked or unlocked?

Also, the unlock cable needs a com port. My computer does not havea com port. Would it still work if i bought a Com port to USB?

...OK, to see:
1. your phone is blocked to the customer network (normarly needed to have 5 digits number), I don't know why you have 9 digits number...
2. it is easy to unlock yourself, but needed to have small knowledge in electronic (and tools, of course).

Because you not have serial port, you need to find (or to buy) one USB to serial cable (DCA510). This cable working for data transfer or unlock Siemens E-Gold phones. Search on this section my post (from one or two year ago), or the other posts regarding to unlocking E-Gold phones). You need to to cut one way and unlock quicly using Joker software.

Thanks for all the help. The only trouble is that I dont want to cut anything inside the phone cause i could screw it up for good.

1. Switch on your mobile phone with a sim card from a network other than the network you are currently with. If you are able to use the phone, you can be sure that your phone is not locked. If your phone displays an error message saying "Wrong sim" or "Incorrect sim" or "Emergency calls only", etc., then your phone is probably locked.

2. You need to search online for cheap codes.

*#06# is used to find the IMEI number. The code you have mentioned above is wrong.

It is not a safe way to use a cable to unlock. Try to get cheap codes online or from any mobile store nearby.

I did do that! but the person i ordered refunded my money cause they said they could't find my unlock code in their data base. I even gave them my IMEI twice but it still didn't work which was wierd.

Anyways, I have a new question. I have a sony ericsson t303a which I want to get free internet on it. Is there any possible way in the world i can? It is unlocked but i've been searching on how to get free internet but can't seem to find anything! Thanks.

@gracyj: for your information, secret code *#0606# is used in the Siemens phones (without sim card), to find which function is locked
