front keys instead of side keys

I have broken side keys so I would like to use the front keys instead (to change the volume of MP3s for example)
I've found in archives something like that:
3BA072: 0E 14; #
3BA078: 0D 23;<
I don't know what does '#' and '<' mean.
I've changed the values on these offsets, but i did nothing.
Can you guide me step-by-step or at least give me a little bit more details.
(ps. I have fw56 - maybe I need fw5601?)
Thanks in advance.

Its soooooo easy:

# = Key for volume up
< = Key for volume down

Only works at the MP3 Player !

When I hit '#' when in MP3 Player mode I only get keys blocked.
And I don't have '<' sign on my keys.
Please, if you know how to do it, help me with more precise hints. I'm sure it's very easy, I just can't get to it.

You have applied the patch with vklay ? Then the keys should NOT lock when you shortly press #....

The < key is the "left" Key

Yes, I tried to do it with VKlay. The strange thing is that every other patch I applied works. Only the one I want the most doesn't...
The vkp file looks like that:

3BA072: 0E00 0E14; #
3BA078: 0D00 0D23; <

Is this the right way? I didn't find a proper patch on the net, so I wrote this one from what I've found in archives.

Keys get blocked when I hold '#', a single hit does nothing.
'<' tracks backwards.

Maybe I should rather use other keys that aren't assigned to any function, like '1', '2'. (what are theirs values?)

I use fw56. I don't know what to do now.
Can you help me?

It seems to be that this patch combined with the patch:

;*** 73. Just Another Additional Display for MP3Player

doesn´t work !!!
