just like many of you've already known that.. RizaPN got a very big heart, he has spent alot of time producing all the patch.. for us to use(got to be alot of time with everything and all including testing on his own phone)
i was/am thinking that he might not had any more of free time for answering to any of questions regarding to.. HowTo apply all those patches. let me mention this again.. actually, "HowTo" has already been included since the beginning,
"arman68" has put up a "Sticky: Flash patches" he and Riza did write down
some good instructions there!

since i'm very please with many of Riza's Flash Patches so i like to share it to you with whatever ways i can.. this considering as my pay back to RizaPN and offcoz to this forum.

i believed that there'll be many ppls out there in this very huge world of the internet who've read this forum and eager to use it.. to try it maybe
but doesn't know how and perhaps too afraid to ask or had tried his best but just could not make it.

to be cont...

PLEASE READ THIS :
1. This flash patching need our flashing knowledge.
2. If you have nothing about that, please do some reading about Siemens Flashing
activities, flasher software, UniSiemens, and hexa-editor topics. There are
so many resource distributed for free in the net.
3. This flash patching is only for SL45 with SLIK firmware version 56.
4. All values are written in hexadecimal format, with or without leading 0x.
5. Address is based on the data location inside the full-flash file. Please
check the original data written in every patch before modifying something.
If your data is different, perhaps we use different firmware version, or
you are in the wrong address/data location. Please recheck everything
before continuing the process.
6. All patches had been tested and work with no problem (no bugs reported yet).
Do any action with your own risk.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXPERIENCE USERS:
*. For fast flash modification, use partial flash action.
If the modified address is 0x183132, then download the flash from 0x180000
with size 0x10000, save it as (for example) SL45_18.bin. Search data at the
location 0x3132, check them, and modify if everything is match.
Do it for all partial block.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
mini-HowTo...
patch your SL45 FW. by using partial flash action.
why partial flash action? -- as per Riza says its for "EXPERIENCE USERS" but i've found it to be very active way -- much easier, fast to flash/to back up and to reset. anyway we'll do it together this way.

Tools(software)
- UniSiemens (you need a loader program if you use win2k or XP)
- UltraEdit-32
- ffmod v090.(Siemens Full Flash(ringtone/image)Modifier by RizaPN.

make sure your phone is now FW v56 if not/not sure then flash it to v56 or use this (SLIK5601w.exe)

in case above direct links for UniSiemens, Loader and SLIK5601 is not working then go to this page or to join Drug_Store Yahoo-Group to get the file.
for ffmod v090-- all software made by RizaPN are downloadable from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/z-soft/files (you must be a member of z-soft mailing-list) and http://www.geocities.com/rizapn
i'll only write instruction based on the above tools.

okay i assumed that your phone is now FW v56.
whichs Riza's patch you like to use?
you can find most of it at "Sticky: Flash patches" and "SLIK v56: Flash Patching (2nd part) ..."

you shud always choose only the lastest version of RizaPN's release..
then copy your prefer patch infos and save it in *.txt format...
put it on Windows Desktop maybe

** backing up the original FW **
remember we'll do a partial flash action so we'll only back up partial(affecting only a part; not total) of it.

say you like to apply below patches (or more, or do it all in one time)

- Overwrite settable "VoiceDialling" shortcut with "Illumination Toggle" :
0x18E3A0 : 4E 02 -> 82 00
0x18E3D4 : 4F 02 -> 82 00
0x18E4A6 : 4E 02 4E 02 -> 82 00 82 00
0x3AE3B2 : DA E6 F8 A9 -> DA DC 80 46
- Use short press of # to unlock key, UP arrow for VoiceDial when key-locked :
0x3B07C4 : 1E -> 14
0x3B07C7 : 03 -> 04
0x3B07CA : 1F -> 21
0x3B07CE : DA A2 18 4C 48 40 2D 10 -> 0D 03 DA DA EC F6 0D 0F

NOT apply just yet.. we're just about to backing up!

-- UniSiemens -- some small hints about Software ->PC ->Cable ->Phone.

Read Flash = Download(from phone);
Write Flash = Upload(to phone or flash your phone)

will back up all partial flash for the above patches..
and step to do are:-
- at UniSiemens window select "PHONE MODEL" = SL4x
- "SETINGS" > "FLASH" > enter at "FROM" = 180000 (use k/b to enter the No.) and "SIZE" = 010000
- select "Read Flash" look at progarm status bar for progress.. at "INFORMATION" window will show ready(done and stanby)
- then "Save File" to any folder on HDD named it as 18_original.bin (or whatever 18_backup.bin is good too)
- and next you will do as the same for 3A0000 then 3B0000
- 3 partial flash files are now backed up

at the origianl/backup folder you shud have now is..
18_original.bin, 3A_original.bin and 3B_original.bin

** Modify partial flash files ** with UltraEdit-32

set up UltraEdit-32 at program windows
"Edit" > select "Hex Edit" and "View" > select "Display Ruler"
open the "18_original.bin" (with UltraEdit-32)

there're 2 ways you can use the program for Hex Edit ..

1)... search values
"Search" > select "Replace" a small window popup..
"Find What" enter the original Hex strings(whole strings)
"Replace With" enter with strings provided by Riza
for example 0x18E3A0 : 4E 02 -> 82 00 ..Find What = 4E 02 and Replace With = 82 00
click "Find Next" until you find "4E 02" at "0000E3A0h" then click "Replace" (NOT Replace All)

or 2)... search addresses
"Search" > select "Goto Line/Page"
a small window popup.. "HEX Goto"
for example 0x18E3A0 : 4E 02 -> 82 00
then type 0xE3A0 (Not 0x18E3A0)
program shud take you to address "0000E3A0h"
you'll modify Hex strings from "4E 02" to "82 00"

after you've done modify then save(use "Save As") and name new file as 18_modify.bin(or whatever)
next.. do the same for 3A_original.bin and 3B_original.bin

now you shud have 3 modified files and named are 18_modify.bin, 3A_modify.bin and 3B_modify.bin

** Upload/Write Flash patch to your phone **

use the UniSiemens to upload above 3 files to phone
do about the same as when you back up in previous steps
only change "Read Flash" to "Write Flash"
remember the "SIZE" need to be "010000" at everytime you do partial flash action. and last thing you need to do(dont forget)..
when you done with uploading.. click "STOP ACTIVITY" close down UniSiemens and remove cable from phone and then **take off the batt and reinsert it** your phone is now all set.

okay after you've all above steps and it worked
let say you want to patch more.. for example
- Use RIGHT Arrow key as a "Card-Explorer" shortcut :
0x3B0368 : 3C => 54
0x3B0450 : F0 C4 DA E5 24 3A EA 00 => EA 00 EE 07 DA D8 CA E1
0x3B0458 : F4 07 => 0D 23
this time you'll use the "3B_modify.bin"(previous file) to continue modifying/adding above patch to it and if you like.. you can make a new file(use "save as" in UltraEdit) as "3B_modify_01.bin" so that you can write remark on a text file for whatever you've done to your phone for each and every flash patch, this way you can backward to wherever points you've in the past.

**only keep "xx_original.bin" for master reset (to original FW)

final,
its just a mini-Howto so that you'll know a little of the flash patcht's process,
there will be some common sense here and there along the whole process...
.. so pls watch your steps and good luck.

HTH.
mickapetch.

okay i'll add this here... some questions i had...

Q.. Then, what about "Search", "Replace", and "Find What"
method? Is it directly jump to the correct address?

A.. answer is No,
you r right with your point of view.. but let me tell you why i like/choose to use the "search values" method..

1)... search values
"Search" > select "Replace" a small window popup..
"Find What" enter the original Hex strings(whole strings)
"Replace With" enter with strings provided by Riza
.......
okay about this.. "click "Find Next" until you find "4E 02" at "0000E3A0h" then click "Replace" (NOT Replace All)"

"find" and "replace" will not take us to the address we want to modify since we did not search address..
i know/understand about(your point) the file could have 1 or even 10 in same sequenced..
but after(for me only after 1st tried) i get used to UltraEdit and the file itseft i can do it just about as fast as the search address method.. okay thiss may sound strange and why? i do this.. after i hit "Find Next" then i will find out that the file got more than one same sequenced.. becoz its not at address "0000E3A0h" then i will scroll down and hit to highlight to the line whichs close or closer to address i was looking for.. okay again it may sound slow but that is not my main reason.. its about my mistaking very often when i use Copy and Paste(with Ctrl+C, V action) its how the program acts up and it will hold me.. slow me down(thats when i wasn't sure) if i do a Copy and Paste right on main window of the program and thiss why i like to use a small popup window of the program called "Replace" to get job done for me.

Q.. if we have this patch : 0x185A3F : 00 00 -> 0D 23 how do you patch your file ?

A.. with UltraEdit "Search" >then use "Goto Line/Page" function of the program
i would enter "0x5A3F" search function will take me to offset address "00005A3Fh" automatically
the program shud highlight "00" at position "F" whichs the last string of Hex <-i change this one to "0D"
then (come on man how about some (common) sense) at address "00005A40h" i'll change "00"(original string) to "23"

sorry i forgot about it
if anyone like to use "SLOW Animated Operator Logo v04"
and dont know how to change images...

RizaPN has already gave a very good instruction for how to use ffmod v090 on the " ffmod Help File " and the program is very easy to use

anyway since i still got free time.. here's a mini-Howto ...

ffmod 090 (Siemens Flash Modifier v0.90 by Riza P.N.)
can be use to modify only for the FullFlash file (somes called FullBackup and file avail on the net named may very) you can get the file here or visit this page to grab it.. or d/l it from your phone.

after you've uploaded the patch to your phone.. you'll need to change the 10 images(operator logos)

start ffmod 090
"Load" choose you FF file location then open it
(you shud see following infos is showing on "Full Flash Info"
Type :SLIK; Version :56;.... okay you're using right file.)
"ffMod Function:" select "Image"
go to "ID" 648,
right click then choose "Load New from File ..." from drop down menu..
open your prepared** image and load it, you'll need to change images from ID 648 to 657.
check again to see all images(10) is now changed to your perfer/prepared images
then click "Save" ...in any name you like.
for example i'll use "ff_modify_img.bin"
"Save" then click "Yes" when asked (Create partial flash files?)

3 files were created by ffmod v090...
ff_modify_img.bin ; ff_modify_img_1F.bin and ff_modify_img_4B.bin

note-- if you use FF file d/l from your phone
.. sometime you'll get "ff_modify_img_00.bin" instend of "ff_modify_img_1F.bin" (dont worry we'll not use both of them for the purpose)

you'll only need to upload "ff_modify_img_4B.bin" to your phone..
use partial flash action... "FROM" = 4B0000 and "SIZE" = 010000 (use k/b to enter the No.)

all set you're now having a very good functional animated operator logos. (i mean OPERATOR LOGO not screen saver... have you ever seen this b4 just a billion.. one and only. Thanks to ..RizaPN)

HTH.
