3650 questions

we have a 3650 that won't start up properly... your patience is appreciated.

problem: shows nokia logo, fades out, does this 3 or 4 times - can't say for sure since it's my friend's phone and he has it.
holding down the "pencil" key during power-on doesen't help either...

what we did : copied the contents of the FExplorer folder from the card's \system\apps\ folder on the root of the C drive

After searching the forum for a solution, we narrowed down the posibilities to 2:
- The so-called "4x blink" problem, since it matches this device's symtoms
however, it seemed to me that this problem is likely to show up after reflashing, which is not the case here.
or
- symbian's "bug" about needing space on the C drive to run, but allowing the user to fill this drive. (again i cannot say for sure how much space was free on the drive)

from what i read all that is needed is for the user area to be formatted.
of course this tends to become a problem since symbian 60 6.1 does not support the " * + 3 + call + pwr " method, and we can not use any code (the phone does not start).

We tried a service but they said that they have do do a full reflashing of the phone to "cure" this. (thus - i think - charging us more)

now the actual questions:

- is full reflashing really necessary? (as i said there was no reflahing involved in the first place)
- is there any other method of formatting the user area without the use of additional equipment (boxes, that is...)?
- can a cable be manufactured for this operation? (since ~250$ for a box on ebay does NOT look like a solution to me )
- can the 3650 use symbian 60 7? (i saw a post concerning this and i thought i'd give it a shot... although i don't quite see it happening )

Thank you for your patience.

there's no way that you can format the user area without the box(Prodigy, Griffiin, Tornado, etc..).
it will surely cure the 4X blinks... tried and tested 100% working.

well... we took it to a service, and now the 4x blink is cured... for good )
now it won't start at all. only shows coloured vertical lines on the display and then powers off. They told us that the flash chip is gone and needs replacing.

given the fact that we had a functional phone before copying those files, how likely is this to be the case? I am aware that the flash chip could have had too many program/erase cycles, but still (isn't this in the order of hundreds?)...

thank you.

In my opinion,try software solutions first,don't touch d flash ic yet,i've experienced that many times.Sometimes PRODIGY can fix that,sometimes can't.Sometimes GRIFFIN can,sometimes can't.Sometimes Twister can,sometimes can't.

What box did they use, when they killed ur phone?I have these 3 boxes so i fix 4blinks 99%, only 1% hardware. So try to bring d phone to other repairer and make sure that they will use a different box...

good luck
