smart cards are just for software protection.

Wrong

SmartCard have units stored inside.
So, you can flash ONLY a limited stock of phones.
More units can be added via WEB applets, but need login/password, name, PIN, ...
Also, all Service points SmartCards are strictly monitored by Ericsson automaticaly (EMMA2 server).
Using Java applets, each SmartCard can be invalidated forever.

Evry EMMA2 user, when start each applet (all EMMA2 work under Internet Explorer in Java), show a message to 'agree' with an Ericsson certificate to run inside his own PC. After that, Ericsson can do whatever they want into your PC

As an example they can: lock your SmartCard, lock your E-Y-E Hardlock, read all files from your HDD, ... and many more

That is, you agree to run an 'Ericsson Mobile Comunications AB certified applet'.

So, all who run EMMA2 using E-Y-E Hardlock and SmartCard just think twice when do ANY operation online or when download/upgrade the EMMA2 package

u r totally right about being online with EMMA2 server but what about if u use it offline till u spent all ur card limit....and u already have new flashes .......

i already have emma 2 working on hard drive and sim card and dongle and its ok but what abt its limit...and what about if i have 2sim card from Ericsson can i use both?

Hi,

Yes you can use all of this ofline.

But maybe you don't know some few things.

Each SmartCard have an unique serial number. And on all EMMA2 systems there is a blacklist with some SmartCard serial numbers. Of course maybe on this 'offline vresion' your SmartCard is not included in this blacklist.

But, I'm almost sure this SmartCard was reported as stolen or brocken by his 'original location' (e.g. Service Point who own first time this card). And all this reported is collected by Ericsson and updated inside the blacklist. Of course you work offline and have no problems. But, sooner or later, you will have to go online (maybe to get some new flashes, or some new language packs, or ...). And with this new downloaded flashes, you will get updated your blacklist too. And this happens even if you have attached ONLY the Hardlock when you make download.

And same thing could happens even if you receive the new flashes from 'offline methods' (e.g. get this files on a CD from a "friend").

And much more, there is the limited credit onto all of this SmartCards.

And I'm talking here from my personal knowledge. I was "owner" of one of this SmartCards and study all this system. After I discovered all of this things I sold my SmartCard (of course for a good price at that moment).
