नई दिल्ली । बिना आईएमईआई के चीनी मोबाइल हैण्डसेट इस्तेमाल करने वालों को राहत मिलने के संकेत हैं। केन्द्र सरकार ने ऎसे मोबाइल फोन इस्तेमाल करने वालों की सेवाएं छह जनवरी से निरस्त करने के निर्देश दिए थे, लेकिन कम्पनियों ने ऎसा सॉफ्टवेयर विकसित कर लिया है जिससे मोबाइल फोन के विशिष्ट नम्बर हासिल करना सम्भव होगा।

कम्पनियां ऎसे मोबाइल हैण्डसेटों की सेवाएं प्रतिबंधित करने के लिए जुलाई तक का वक्त मांग रही हैं जबकि सरकार की ओर से मार्च तक छूट देने के संकेत हैं। आईएमईआई 15 अंकों का विशिष्ट नम्बर होता है और जब किसी हैण्डसेट से काल की जाती है या रिसीव की जाती है तो सेवा प्रदाता के नेटवर्क पर इसके माध्यम से हैण्डसेट की पहचान होती है।

जीएसएम मोबाइल फोन सेवा प्रदाताओं के संगठन सीओएआई के अनुसार विकसित सॉफ्टवेयर के बारे में जानकारी देने व इसका इस्तेमाल सुनिश्चित करने के लिए कम्पनियां कुछ ज्यादा वक्त के पक्ष में हैं। उपभोक्ता को इस सॉफ्टवेयर के लिए करीब सौ रूपए का शुल्क अदा करना होगा।

The ban is not going to materialize, because for each call that is received by the service provider, they need to check if it has valid IMEI number. This would introduce huge network delays and call will not materialzie in reasonable real time. More over an estimated value of 10% of IMEI numbers are duplicates and not original. So duplicate checking adds another overhead. So the service providers do not agree. However I believe there is an option to "add on" a IMEI number with a additional charge of 100 Rs. But beware when you buy a china phone to see, it carries a Valid IMEI number
