First mobile phone virus discovered
From correspondents in Paris
June 16, 2004

THE first ever computer virus that can infect mobile phones has been discovered, anti-virus software developers said today, adding that up until now it has had no harmful effect.

The French unit of the Russian security software developer Kaspersky Labs said that that virus - called Cabir - appears to have been developed by an international group specialising in creating viruses which try to show "that no technology is reliable and safe from their attacks".

Cabir infects the Symbian operating system that is used in several makes of mobiles, notably the Nokia brand, and propagates through the new bluetooth wireless technology that is in several new mobile phones.

If the virus succeeds in penetrating the phone, it writes the inscription 'Caribe' on the screen and is then activated every time that the phone is turned on.

It is able to scan for phones that are also using the Bluetooth technology and is able to send a copy of itself to the first handset that it finds.

According to the anti-virus software developer F-Secure, the discovery of Cabir is proof that the technologies are now available to create viruses for mobile phones and that they are now known to the writers of computer viruses.

Anti-virus experts have been warning for months that mobile phone viruses are set to multipy, given the increasingly diverse uses of mobile phones.

Cure for phone virus
June 21, 2004

AN AUSTRALIAN company says it has found a cure for the world's first mobile phone virus.

The relatively harmless Cabir virus was detected in Europe and infects the Symbian operating system used in several makes of mobiles and propagates through Bluetooth wireless technology.

If the virus succeeds in penetrating the phone, it writes the inscription Caribe on the screen and is then activated every time the phone is turned on.

It is able to scan for phones that are also using Bluetooth and is able to send a copy of itself to the first handset that it finds.

Brisbane company TSG Pacific chief executive Gavin Knight said although the virus was relatively harmless, others would follow.

As far as he was aware the anti-virus software was the only one available in the world. It will be available on the company's website from today.

He said about 150,000 Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Nokia phones that had been sold in Australia since December 2002 were susceptible.

Hi

To get this virus it's like to play stupid with your phone. First, when infected phone scans using bluetooth, your phone warns you about incoming connection and asks you about yes/no. Then you receive a message with the virus application and again ask for play yes/no. And the last when you run the virus the phone screems at you saying that application is not trusted. And again you press yes. So it's like testing people if they can push yes three time without reading the messages. This is the magical phone virus. But again your phone may be set not to warn you at all and then you have a working virus.

Regards

guyz this virus(carib) is already attached in a thread!just search and you will find it!But it doesn't do any big damage to your phone and it is easy to turn this virus from running off. There is a new virus which when it infects your phone you can't reboot it!You can only turn it off by removing the battery
