If you have been a customer for more than 6 months and your account is in good standing you can call T-Mobile and tell them that you are traveling out of the country to like asia and you want to be able to use a local sim card.
They will then give you the unlock code . T-Mobile is one of the only companys that I know of that will do this for the customer.

t-mobile (uk) will charge u £15 for the unlock code to any of their mobiles...
i dont think they let u have it even after some 6 months for free..

orange uk will charge u between £20 and £30 for unlocking code

virgin uk will give u the code for free as long as u have previously topped up more that £30 credits..

seeing as u put this inprogramming section, maybe u r hoping to make solution to this yourself?

well if u r, u need to follow these steps:
take apart the phone
find you the eeprom chip in there (if u dont know what an eeprom looks like maybe this is too difficult.. or u could look on www.insidegsm.com if its still there)
take the number off the eeprom chip (i suppos u could get this number from service manual also)..
go google.com and search for a programmer for this chip (i think ponyprog will work on most eeprom)
read the eeprom out
open the file in hex editor
search the string (ascii string) 23430 this is will give u location to sp lock area for a t-mobile uk phone..

i never tried any further than this.

but maybe you could replace the 23430 data with "FFFFF" or "00000" to open the lock..
save file, write to eeprom and test phone..

but i think there will be some checksum on this area that u will need to recalculate..

if you wish to learn about editing the hex values without affecting checksum, search some old post in nokia dct3 flasher forum..

if u talk to me crusher, u can find ur own eeprom bin same as wat i played with.

i read from samsung a300, nk 5130 and most dct3 nk...
i dont have now (obviously after this time of posts) but to make is easy. dct 3.5 u can read using flasher cable... all older phone read with simple pony prog (two zener diode and two resistor scheme).

these day all eeprom in the flash memory tho. so u need flash reader for the phone...

I have a Sidekick (Hiptop) which is color, and it does not have nothing corresponding to 24xxx or 93xxx...

sidekick unlock..............u can check this trick to bypass ur activation string

You can bypass the waiting for activation screen by pressing the Menu
key and the letter L at the same time
