IBM Thinkpad R51 BIOS Password Removal - GSM-Forum

I have IBM thinkpad R51 laptop that has BIOS password that needs to be removed. I have searched on the net but i cant find any proper solution.
What can i do because i dont know whether to:
*purchase a BIOS chip n solder it
*remove the CMOS chip and other batteries
*use these softwares or dongle to re-set BIOS

Any help would be great thanks!

Hi

first u must to open laptop and as bRAd said read eeprom with eeprom programmer and send it to me or bRAd.

thnaks guys i will now purchase a EEPROM programmer and get it sorted, is there any specific type of EEPROM programmer i need??

the eeprom programmer must to support 24rf08 it's very importante !
In my case i'm using universell programmer ALL07 but it's expensive, u can build Willem programmer perhaps the last version can support this type of eeprom, all in all willem it's good programmer, if u have time build it so easy !

Search Google for Joe in Australia, he has plans on his site for a home built eprom reader and provides a decryption service for Ibm thinkpad eproms, have used him a couple of times and is very good.

24RF08 rf don´t need final cheksum calculation ?

Hy
To remove password from IBM's 24RF08 you can use i2c_reader to read the eprom, it will create a data.bin file. U can use cmospwd to list your bin into scancode conversion. (cmospwd.exe /d /l data.bin )

Give me your email adress and i will send you all software and picture to build the hardware neded (seems like i can not post attachments here, sorry)

... i don't think that there is someone so stupid to unlock a Thinkpad for 5 euros. Is to complicated, to risky and also you need some skils and tools to do it. Anyway all info you need is free over the internet a long time ago.

And one more thing: for what is this forum , if not for share our experience and for help each other out?

Yes sir , i was able to find a solution to readout password form Thinkpads , and for free, but a lot of search an patience was needed ...

Believe me, there will be ... Anyway, It's not so complicated, can be done in less than 10 minutes, w/o any soldering.
