Member: 3046 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | IMSI-Catcher Nobody in this forum seems to be interested in it. When searching for it with Google, I only get German articles on it stating that it exists (oh, really ?) and is -only- publicly available from Rohde & Schwarz in Munich. The price is supposedly horrendous and its size is big enough to fill a mini-van. Now I know, it might not be as widespread as the dejan-flashing-box, but I still do think I am missing out on something. May it be, the English name is not "IMSI-Catcher" ? I mean somebody must have considered the idea, that tapping into some conversations is funnier than fiddling with a wet phone ... |

With some channel limitation one could reprogram a normal phone to become an IMSI catcher...but all the programming effort I see taking place is unlocking unlocking unlocking unlocking unlocking unlocking unlocking.... >that tapping into some conversations Also all SMS messages sent by anybody in the area can read. |

Governments and police can already buy this from Rohde & Schwartz. Normal people in GSM business need repair, flash and unlock. BR | |

Member: 687397 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 3 | Big Brother The thing is that anybody e.g. by using http://www.national.com/appinfo/wire...22,605,00.html Can easily make such a device. So who says criminals are not already using it ??? I think it would be good if somebody would make one, publish the details and force the industry to close this back door for criminals. That it after that is closed for "big brother" as well is not so bad Quote:

For all of you that are sick of all this BS and want to do something about it, here’s a great project you should check out: “The Android-IMSI-Catcher-Detector (AIMSICD)”. It is an Android open-source based project to detect and (hopefully one day) avoid fake base stations (IMSI-Catchers) or other base-stations (mobile antennas) with poor/no encryption. This project aim to warn users if the ciphering is turned off and also enables several other protection-mechanisms. Since it is under constant development, we constantly search for testers and security-enthusiastic developers with balls. Don’t be shy, feel free to contribute, in any way you can on GitHub: github[DOT]com/SecUpwN/Android-IMSI-Catcher-Detector |
