iOS 11.3 Jailbreak Successfully Achieved; Cydia Also Installed

We have some great news for jailbreakers. After successfully getting root shell access in iOS 11.3, Chinese security researcher and hacker, Min Zheng aka SparkZheng has revealed that he has successfully jailbroken iOS 11.3.

He tweeted “This time. It’s a real JB now” and has shared two screenshots. The first screenshot shows Cydia on the jailbroken iPhone’s Home screen and the second one seems to reveal that he was able to install the Cydia app after getting the shell access.

iOS 11.3 Jailbreak Successfully Achieved; Cydia Also Installed

Before you get too excited, it is probably still early days as Zheng will still need to create a tool to jailbreak iOS 10.3 which can be released to the public. But the good news is that it is a matter of time for the iOS 11.3 jailbreak to be released. It also looks like the vulnerabilities used by Zheng to jailbreak iOS 11.3 has been patched in iOS 11.3.1 as he has only mentioned getting access to iOS 11.3 root shell in the previous tweet.

So if you’re on iOS 11.3 or lower, then you should stay where you are and avoid upgrading to iOS 11.3.1. Please also note that Apple has stopped signing iOS 11.3, so you won’t be able to downgrade back to iOS 11.3 to jailbreak your iOS device once the jailbreak is released.

It has been a very long wait for the jailbreak to be released, so we can’t wait to see when the iOS 11.3 jailbreak will be released.

We will let you know as soon as there is an update about the iOS 11.3 jailbreak.

Houdini ‘Semi-Jailbreak’ Tool Demoed on iOS 11.4 Beta

If you’re up to speed on everything happening in the jailbreak community as of late, then you might be familiar with the Houdini semi-jailbreak created by Abraham Masri (@cheesecakeufo) many months ago.

While it isn’t a full-fledged jailbreak like Electra and Yalu are, it does provide users with a basic way of customizing their device(s) outside of Apple’s stock parameters, and Masri has just demonstrated a successful Houdini semi-jailbreak on Apple’s latest iOS 11.4 beta:

In the video, we can clearly see the Houdini beta 3 semi-jailbreak tool running on an iPad with iOS 11.4 beta installed on it. The video also demonstrates some aftermarket operating system customizations as a means of showing off.

As noted in the video description, parts of the video have been cut or sped up because of the lengthy respring process. Nevertheless, Masri has a respectable reputation in the community, and everyone can clearly see the magic at work here.

Being that iOS 11.4 is still in beta, there’s no telling whether Houdini beta 3 will still work after Apple wraps ties up the loose ends for an official public release. It should indeed be interesting to see how the situation pans out in due time.

CoolStar Displays Interest in an iOS 11.2.x-centric Kernel Exploit

A spark of good news seems to be circulating in the jailbreak community this week after an iOS 11.2.x-based kernel exploit became publicized.

And if that news wasn’t good enough in and of itself, a Tweet shared by renowned iOS developer and Electra jailbreak tool creator CoolStar underscores interest in ****** around with it:

The Tweet isn’t a guarantee that CoolStar will implement an iOS 11.2.x jailbreak based on the new exploit, but rather a word of enlightenment that it could be possible. At this point in time, it’s too early to tell what could materialize after everything is said and done.

Given the current circumstances, we’d recommend that any avid jailbreakers using iOS 11.2-11.2.6 stay put and avoid upgrading their firmware. It seems that CoolStar agrees with this logic:

CoolStar Displays Interest in an iOS 11.2.x-centric Kernel Exploit

iOS 11.3 and later don’t appear to be vulnerable to the exploit mentioned above, so upgrading would be counterproductive should you possess an ounce of interest in jailbreaking iOS 11.2.x.

As of this writing, Saurik has yet to update Cydia or Mobile Substrate with official support for iOS 11, but CoolStar’s Electra jailbreak for iOS 11.0-11.1.2 bundles a modified version of Cydiaand a Substrate substitute that appear to work just as well. Any future jailbreak from CoolStar, should it surface, would likely bundle similar utilities.

iOS 11.3.1 Jailbreak With Cydia Gets A Video Demo

A jailbreak of iOS 11.3.1 has been demonstrated by Spark and Bxl. Video proof of the accomplishment was posted to YouTube.

iOS 11.3.1 Jailbreak With Cydia Gets A Video Demo

Spark Zheng, an Android and iOS Senior Security Engineer at Alibaba, tweeted a link to the video saying, "iOS 11.3.1? It's not a problem. :-)".

Despite showing it off, the security researchers are unlikely to release their jailbreak; however, it's possible that the exploit could surface once patched by Apple.

Notably, the Tencent Keen Security Lab also demonstrated a jailbreak of iOS 11.3.1 at the Infiltrate Security Conference in Miami a couple weeks ago.

We'll let you know if there are any further developments. Check out the video below and please follow 3u Team on Twitter, Facebook or Google+ for updates.

Every iOS App Update Must Support the iPhone X Notch and Use iOS 11 SDK by Jul

The company made the announcement through its official developer portal. Until now, a cutoff point for app updates had been expected, but not set in stone.

Newly submitted apps have had to use the latest iOS SDK and Super Retina support since April.

Apple regularly enforces SDK upgrades as a way of ensuring App Store titles remain compatible and secure. It has also become more aggressive about delisting broken and outdated apps, though the company usually offers developers a chance to fix the situation before scrubbing happens.

Super Retina support is liable to become extremely important this fall, since Apple is expected to ship not one but three new iPhones —5.8- and 6.5-inch OLED models, and a cheaper 6.1-inch LCD device. Since all of these will be bigger than the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus, higher resolutions will be mandatory to maintain pixel density.

iPhone, iOS 'dominant' over Android in English-speaking countries

The Mobile Web Intelligence Report, released this week by DeviceAtlas, found that in the first quarter, iOS leads in market share collected by device identifier in such countries as Australia, Canada, Japan, the U.K. and the U.S., while holding a slim lead in Sweden.

Android, on the other hand, holds a lead in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Italy, Malaysia, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, South Africa and Spain. iOS, however, has made gains in some countries where it still trails, including Colombia, Egypt and Ireland.

DeviceAtlas also found that KaiOS, a new operating system, has cut into the margins of both incumbents in India, pushing Apple into third place.

Feature phones remain, as DeviceAtlas described it, "an active part of most countries' mobile ecosystem," indicating that smartphone markets still have room to grow.

"The feature phone segment has not gone away, and may even be making a resurgence," Martin Clancy, Head of Marketing for DeviceAtlas, said as part of the report's release. "The growth in feature phone traffic in India underlines the fact that web publishers and service providers ignore users on these devices at their peril."

The survey was taken during the mass of reports claiming that the iPhone X, and the iPhone as a whole, was doing poorly on the quarter, and would continue to underperform for the remainder of Apple's fiscal year. Apple CEO Tim Cook put most of those sales estimates to death during the earnings announcement on March 1.

"Customers chose iPhone X more than any other iPhone each week in the March quarter, just as they did following its launch in the December quarter," Cook said as Apple announced earnings on Tuesday. "We also grew revenue in all of our geographic segments, with over 20 percent growth in Greater China and Japan."
