indian Home Ministry officials fear the death toll could rise as desperate search for survivors continued.

The devastating quake, which hit Nepal on Saturday, forced several people to camp in the open due to powerful aftershocks on Sunday.

However, India stepped up relief and rescue work in the Himalayan country, the rescue operations were hampered on Sunday due to powerful aftershhocks.

Following the powerful 7.9 magnitude quake, hospitals in Nepal struggled to cope with the thousands, who were rushed for surgery. On Sunday, many were treated out in the open due to lack of beds and space to accommodate the injured.

It is the worst quake to hit Nepal after one in 1934 killed some 8,500 people.
