Paying with PayPal

Is it normal when purchasing an item through Paypal for the seller to ask for proof of credit card, Drivers licence and credit card statement. I have used paypal often for small purchases and never come across this. Are the funds not taken from the buyer by paypal and passed onto the seller. I have heard about chargeback. But this request was immediately e-mailed as soon as I clicked on pay.

Sorry Raskal, Dont know whether this is going to be posted twice now. I know you are respected. This was IPmart are they?. I cant afford too loose a lot of money hence a small purchase. Is Paypal not trustable then!!!! To a certain degree...... What to use instead????

Paypal

I e-mailed paypal regarding the above and recieved this reply from them :-

Thank you for contacting us in relation to the status of your
transaction.

I have reviewed your transaction and can confirm that it has been
processed successfully and received by the seller. From a PayPal
perspective, we do not require you to provide these documents for any
reason.

We are unable to monitor/prevent your seller from requesting such
documents from you however I would recommend that you do not provide
copies of the requested documents to any seller for any reason. There
should be no need for the seller to request them in the first place.

If you feel that the email is in any way suspicious I would ask that you
forward it to [email protected] so that it can be reviewed further.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,
Barry

The trouble with paypal is although they say that they are safe way of buying this is in fact not true. I have often bought items from ebay only to find they fake or broken/not as descibed so I put in claim and all times I have won my claim and been awarded my cash back BUT only to find that paypal then tells me they cant recover the money because the account holder doesnt have it in his/her account.
SO this must be equally so for sellers and just because you have paypal account doesnt mean you are who you say you are.
I dont usually give extra identity proof with paypal if a seller asks for it I pay by different method myself.
Saying that, IPmart has a good reputation on here and if money has already been paid by paypal maybe you should just get in touch with Ipmart and ask them why they want extra proof as they already have money.

paypal

Yes, I did receive an email yesterday from IP mart saying they had recieved my money and would be sending the goods. Having not sent the proof they requested I can only assume it is not needed when paying with paypal.
