How to unlock the Sony Ericsson Z520i from Cingular??

Step 1) Remove SIM card from the phone
Step 2) Connect the phone (power off) to the clip using provided cable.
Step 3) Power up to the clip with 9V battery
Step 4) Press power button on the phone and hold down for 2 seconds. Release the power button and
press again (holding down for 2 seconds)

Phone will be unlocked.

When both lights are blinking test to make sure phone is unlocked successfully.

Note you will need two 9V batteries one to power up the clip and one for the phone service cable.

Upgrade the Clip to Version 1.8

1) Take out the SIM card. (or insert a dead SIM card phone is locked to e.g. AT&T)
2) Attach powered off phone using data cable came with the clip.
3) Attach a fresh 9v battery to the data cable.
4) Power up the Clip
5) As soon as the light blinks hold the Power key on the phone for 2 seconds.
6) Release the Power key.
(Note) Phone should not Power on at this point.
7) Light on the SE Clip will blink for a second.
8) Both light will turn solid and the phone is unlocked.
Total time under 10 seconds.

Tested on several phones works 100% for Z520 and W600i

I upgraded the SE Power Clip to firmaware 1.10

I can confirm the solution still works following the above steps unlocking Z520a or W600i takes just a few seconds.

With SE Power Clip firmaware 1.10 or 1.08 you might need to downgrade your Clip to firmware version 1.01 to unlock older phones.

Anyone tried unlocking a T200 I've tried twice wont work even with 1.01 any one know any steps to take?

I have SE Power Clip. It is not a good device. I recommend you should get a Cruiser. It is only $109. It can unlock Z520 and most of the old and newer models.
