Changing the GSM

HI, Please forgive me for being one of the stupid people asking the stupid questions.

I recently bought a Nokia 7600. A jackass at Tmobile said I could use the phone as long as it had a GSM of 1800. He must have forgotten to tell me that it had to be triband! I have everything set up with Tmobile and everything works but the service. I sometimes get sim card not ready or no service. Is it possible to set the data for the GSM to a cetain frequency (ie US 900/1900 MHz) ! Can I in anyway to mod/hack/crack the phone to work with the North American GSM or a certain frequency.....or something?

Please anything.

Why was the T-Mobile person a Jackass? What he said was correct. As long as its gsm 1800Mhz or egsm 900Mhz it will work. To me thats telling you it wont work on 1900. Its a duel band duel mode phone. Maybe if youd asked if it actually worked on 1900 Mhz he might have said NO it has to be 1800. I think you'll have to change a few components to convert it to 1900Mhz
