Howto write a PIC using IC-PROG

hI!

I'm a newbie writing PICs...

I'm trying to write a PIC (12F629) using IC-PROG on Win98, but when I try to check the HEX file I get a eror 000F and when I try to write the file the PIC's value is only '0000...'.

Any idea?! Is a problem with the HEX file or there is some kind of configurantion to do on IC-PROG???

Tnx.

The ICSP based programing works fine with IC prog..There are a few schemes for that...I think the problem is with your hex may be the hex is not in the right format...which hex you are tying to write..? Contact me in any IM i'll try to help...

I think you whant to make a clone of SCDRII!!! PIC 12F629 is emulator for original DS(serial number digital unic... which is in original SCDRII)!! Now question
1-You try to reprogram original pic from SCDR clone V5?? Or is a new Blank Pic? Bcz if you want to program old pic is next problem..pic vas programed before whit CP(code protect) and when you program a new hex..when the ICprog whant to veryfy get error bcz canot read content(is protected)! And for this reson you get Failed at adres h00..bcz cannot read content of pic (is whit code protect)
Try to read content of PIC And you will see only 0000....but in last line i think 3F8 you will see something...this is oscilator calibrated value..you must restore after program PIC!! So my opinion is you need a PIC new blank..and a good Hardware for ICprog who is offer 13V for MCLR pin(pin4....in this pin you need 13 V for programming PIC)!!
Good Luck and send result!!

For programing first u must erase it and after u hawe to write content to it .
U must check config so it wil work , if u don't chose good config then will never vork.

Also, if read protect is enabled in configs, sure it will read only garbage, even if it's correctly programmed.

ICD2 can NOT be used with OTP/EPROM-based old PICs like PIC16C505. The best programmer for DIL packaged PICs
(old and new) is the original PICSTART Plus by Microchip that can work directly from MPLAB.

Also ICPROG and similar crappy cheap designs are not very reliable - especially with OTP/EPROM based PICs
who require good power supply for VPP. Bad voltage VPP can result in non or partially non-working PIC
or bits toggling after some months/years and if VPP is rised too slow by cheap programmers, PIC's program
counter will increment before setting to programming mode and result of this is badly programmed PIC.
If OTP => put to trash.

Newer Flash-based PICs generate their VPP internally and just require VPP for setting into programming mode,
therefore they work better with cheap designs.

A very good USB programmer for Flash-based PICs can be found here:
http://www.sprut.de/electronic/pic/p.../index.htm#b8p

I use this myself almost more often than my PICstart when i develop code and
only use the PICstart to program some old leftover OTP/EPROM PICs.
