I think there are a lot of good tools to bring your job to good end. But the secret is not the tools, but yourself.

You buy verry expensive tools, but if you don't know how to work with them (I think that's an other problem).

Just buy verry simple rework station to begin with practicing.

Can understand why you say this but don't agree completely.
If you buy cheap equipment that doesn't heat consistantly, not controlled well etc you'll probably end up destroying things more then fixing them.

On the other hand, spending 1000-2000$ on a system and don't get it to work can be very frustrating to.

Like you say, in the end it's more the user's knowledge, experience, willing to learn etc...
But good tools will give more chance for good results.

For now, think I'd go for the jovy RE-8500.
Jovy gives good support normally, a big plus for new users.
Other sellers leave you standing cold mostly.

Btw, ben je soms nederlander?

I agree with this, although I've bought cheaper equipment at the beggining to practice and learn I feel that I should have gone with the expensivier tools since day one. If you are sure that you're not just passing by the area then go for the right tools.

I've wrecked some motherboards and stuff due to not having the right tools, those extra successful repair would have accounted for the better equipment amortization
There is also the time saved in operations, iron just takes 2 seconds to heat, the tip can be exchanges while hot, etc etc.
All those time saving operations mean more free time = more repairs. So you can recover your investment over time.

I have a JBC AM-6000 rework station + Hot Tweezers.
I've never bought anything from JBC that didn't met my expectations, in fact they were exceeded most of the times.
Go for JBC material if you can afford it.
