time is changed , that tool was useful in older phones...
these days, we receive most of smartphones, and most smartphone have problems in their integrated circuits,

multimeter - for tracing ,
DC power supply- to check power problems
Spectrum analyzer (sometimes ) - to check waveforms / frequency
ultrasonic cleaner - mostly used for water damaged sets

i wish i had one.Since not all technician has a technical knowledge regarding the usage of oscilloscope and its advantages this has not become a must for most of service center specially the small one.I have seen some service center, that has it only rotting on one corner cause no one knows how to use it.Although oscilloscope is not a guaranty of 100% success, i think we should all have oscilloscope on hand.

oscilloscope great if you have service manual, oscilloscope good if you find short circuit on complex switching circuit like CPU Vcore, otherwise multimeter is enough.

simple example,

multimeter shows the one snap of the movie
oscilloscope shows the all frames on the movie :-)

First of all oscilliscope is an expensive tools to see whats going on with a gadget ..it do test the wave patern on a component specially the IC's.. but those component was basically made for last. If it broke..theres nothing we can do to repair it. And the symptoms was shown. If we know the symptoms you can deal it rightaway. In my opinion may not be the best but it can help a lot is a THERMAL SCAN which can detect the overheating component due to short circuit. ...thanks and *** Bless

hi

yes i agree with fulviospano but still agree with falcon-box..
perhaps essential with old BB5 DCT4 nokia, blackberry etc
years 1992-2010.
But with the current hardware architecture does not I would see so essential..but this is my personal opinion and debatable

Indeed, for the repair of all days it is not essential .... but if you want to learn something new .... Just take a ride on youtube to find ideas.
Remember that the actual repair is not to replace ... but you know how to do a search of intelligent fault with the help of good equipment it tells a great ignorance that still in the little free time I have left a desire to learn; -)

Learn more about your electronics knowledge and find answers alone .... an oscilloscope lets you graph graphically the voltage over time while a multimeter just gives you a numeric value ...
