I know I have to update the kernal on this handset, but which one do I use?

As far as I can see there is no "3" Kernal to download.

This is the first time I have had to update the kernal to unlock an HTC and I don't want to brick the phone, any help would be appreciated.

download firmware exe from support
run it and do what it ask
after update success unlock

Do i need to instaal htc sync first, caz its not connecting with RUU.?

u not need it.
try to connect phone in boot mode (volume down + power on)
