hi

have(at6) dv6000 intel 945 mobo with 7400 nvidia. when i remove ram "its not blingking" power led. it seems does not boot. first i change 945. still same, i see 7400 is not warm up then i change it. now all bridges warm up like normally working.but still same problem. i found u21 (ics) going too hot after 7-8sec. checked voltages but looks like fine. board works, leds on.

changed u21 (ics). but its warm up too hot. can put my finger 5 sec.

any idea?

Was 945 bridge faulty?, Did you first check with nvidia, if the led is not blinking when ram is removed then it should be nvidia. normally 945 chip when it is used a bridge is not prone to failure, i think you have compounded the problem by replacing 945 chip. you should have replaced nvidia at the first step

thanks for quote,

i can change chipsets like changing socket cpu's recently i changed and reballed a 965 chipset as 20 times. no problem. its like cpu. i know all temperature degrees. i use my hand made rework machine. you can search youtube 'change bga 4 minutes' ...
i need to say; its right its bridge. did you ever check a dv6000 board by removing gpu and test like it ?

now, i am also a human and i can make mistakes. in this reason i am asking questions need to now ideas. and thanks for answers.

i found that board 945, gpu and also all components has no problem. its short circuit between board layers. removed all components and put other bad board. now its working.. have some problems like no sound and not charge etc.. but board working, just testing board.

have a nice day.

Geez, I guess I can toss my Jovy away now. Surprised that he didn't push off every cap and resistor near that BGA.

that video quite old.

now i can change chipsets in just 2 min's.

its so simple for me.

i will upload new video with high quality when i will be free.

then you can check resistors and caps.

Personally I have never been successful using hot air. Always moving nearby components. Thats why I switched to IR. But if you did it using a handheld IR unit, that may work better for me. The one thing that bothers me about this approach is how do you control the upper heat limit. Seems to me that approach would apply too much heat to the device unless you had a lot of practice and patience, just like working with the Jovy. If the Jovy had larger lower heaters it would be just as effective.
Another issue I have is you cannot make the ramp time too short or that could also damage the device. But I bet you compensate for that by appling most of the heat to the lower side of the board thus saving the BGA from too much heat.
The real secret is to heat the entire board so it has equal heat distribution, but get it too hot and the heavy components will fall off and the connectors will melt. Use too much reflective tape and you stop the whole board from heating evenly. Quite a challenge I must say.

Hello,

i have a pavilion dv9000 with intel cpu. The board power up for a second and shuts down immediately (no reboot, it remains off).

Can this happen due a faulty gpu?

Thank you!

Yes I have seen this before and turned out to be GPU. Just listen out to any clicking or shorting just in case it is a power IC.

Now the gpu is removed, but the board shuts down immediately. In the near of one Power IC (on the back by the cpu) i can hear a chirping tone.

Yes definitely I have had this. It was caused by a short on the 1.2 volt rail, I removed all the caps and the short remained. I finally got the GPU off and no short anymore and the board fires up. I always check for shorts from ground to the inductors, if you find a short it is simply a matter of referring to the schematic to see which rail and what is connected to it.
