Can Re-7500 reball an xbox gpu - GSM-Forum

Question:
Can these jovy units actually reball an xbox 360 CPU / GPU chip and then resolder to the motherboard ???
There seems to be conflicting data and most tutorials I can find are on reballing or removing a BGA chip but none show it being reapplied to the mobo.
The majority of work is on mobile phones which are tiny in comparison to the xbox.
There is apparently an issue with the perheater being to small area wise to heat the board sufficiently and also that the board bends twists at higher temps suggesting that the X/Y axis is to flimsy for the job.
I would like to buy one but cant find any info on them except for this forum.

Any comments welcome

Yes the machine can be used to reball XBOX360 GPUs. For this its better to use lead based solder balls or paste as leadfree is crap. The pre heater is large enough for the job. The temp probe needs to be bent in a particular way so it makes good contact with the board. Also for large BGAs the heater upper heater should be at lowest position. If this isn't done properly you get false readings and you end up heating too much and this causes board warping. If done properly, you can easily work with any small or large BGA. I use it for repairs of XBOX 360 and laptop boards. It does take some time to get used to work with infra red rework as compared to hot air rework. Once the initial learning period is over, it gets easier with your experience. And yes, this is one of the best places for community support for this machine.

well that is the 1st positive i have had for jovy re-7500.
All other reports pointed to faulty equipment etc Mr Chipps and a few others.
I can imagine that a lot of testing would be necessary to get the correct profile for each persons individual setup.
I was considering buying a 160 * 160 preheater and a tornado ir unit with a stand then automating the heating process with a analoge signal from a controller to manipulate the pot on the tornado.
Can be done but will need some time to perfect so still tossing up which way to go.
Got contact from a jovy agent wanted US $ 3000 for one sure I can find cheaper if U can get them in stock.
Will keep in contact if and when I get started with the jovy

This machine is a little complicate, you should know how to use it before you buy.

it will be difficult learning to use something that i dont have

I do realise that a lot of trial and error will have to take place as part of a learning curve .

Once the height of the ir top heater is set for example doing a reball do U have to adjust the height while doing the reball or once you know the height U are good to go for every reball or not ?
Does the top heater height have to change for different applications example different for a reflow as opposed to a reball or are these just different profiles ?
Once I have a profile I can save this for automatic profiling later how does the automatic function on the unit work ? Good / Bad

IR rework is a totally different ball game from hot air. It takes a while to get used to it. Many who complain about it not working are not willing to experiment and take time to learn the process. Many who are using the machine successfully don't bother to post their results here. If u search through old threads you will find people who are using the machine successfully.

Once the heater height is adjusted, its good for that particular type of job. Heater height has to be adjusted as per the type of job you are doing. For small BGAs like mobile ICs, you need more height as if you keep it too low it may heat too fast and burn the chip. For larger BGAs the height needs to be less. The closer the heater is to the item being heated, the more heat is transferred to it faster. Keep that in mind. You need to observe and use common sense. After a while you will develop a feel for the machine and just know what settings to use. Do watch all videos by Raheeeeb to learn how he uses it. He mostly uses it using manual controls. But you can make your own profiles by using the profile editor as shown by him. Once you have a profile, you can save it for future use.

The temperatures for reball and reflow are the same as solder being melted is the same.
