Hello i recently purchased this machine and for some reason the machine doesnt get to the temp i need. i am located in new york and work on iphone repairs and the desired temp is around 450-470 degrees f and for some reason the machine wont pass 400f. i was wondering if the problem might be that i am using a step up step down transformer because the machne is a 220 and i only have a 110. basically what i do i do the warm up stage until the machine gets to 200 and then i put uh and lh in fast reflow and then wait. it never makes it to 450f. any advise will help.. thanks

You actually need a step-up transformer at least 2kw for the RE7500. If you still cannot get the desired temps, try bringing the board closer to the lower heater. I have adjustable legs on by board holder and typically have the board 3/4" to 1" from the glass. The upper heater is typically set to 2.5 to 3.

Thanks Dan,

Quick question when you say 2.5 to 3 i dont have that option i only have preheat reflow and fast reflow. is it possible that i am doing something wrong.. ill tell you esxactly what im doing and you let me know what you think. i preheat the lower heater on park mode until it reaches 200 then i put the board on the adjustable legs and i make sure the board is as close as possible to the heat "less then an inch" and then i put the machine on fast reflow upper heater and fast reflow on lower and it barely makes it to 400.

First off, refer to Celesus, not Farenheit.
2.5 to 3 refers to the height markings on the upper heater shaft.
I would preheat the board with the lower heater to 130C-leaded, 150C-LeadFree. Fast reflow on upper until 200C then Reflow, off at 215C. Let sit at 217C-235C for 20-25 seconds. (185C-235C leaded)
The goal is to let the BGA dwell at 217C-230C for 20-25 sec. Do not go over 235C. I use a software stopwatch to insure dwell time. You must insure your heaters are off to not go over temp. I slide a copper plate over the lower heater and swing the upper heater as soon as dwell time is over. This drops the temps quicker for a better solder bond. Fan on at 160C-170C. Remove board at 75C
The other thing to watch out for is that you stay in this temp range on both sides next to the BGA. Use 2 TC's. When the BGA is close to the edge, that side will heat up faster.
If you go over 240C, throw away the BGA, it is cooked. Also, to avoid popcorning, you need to bake the parts for 125C for 48 hours before using. This is real important in a humid climate. Follow this for a 99% success rate.
