Take a look at this: why-nvidia-chips-defective

Thats why i search bga that are manufactured in 2008 or later. This problem is not fixable and maybe the reason why my fixed units fails after a couple of months.

But where can i get those new bga's? What datecode is on the bga that is manufactured after 2008?

Sorry for the double post, but i can't see my entry for hours.

The most important thing i'm trying to tell all people is that most machines that cost under 2000 USD can't show the temperature accurately. So what the machine shows may not be the actual temperature. I find that my machine shows 7-10 degrees less than the actual component temperature. This can be verified by using a second temperature probe like some others on this forum or by using an infra red thermometer.

Good quality genuine flux is necessary for rework.

B.R.

Hi Trion,

What in your opinion is good flux? I tried many brands like Amtech, Kester, Kingbo.

For reballing i prefer the kingbo. For reflowing i prefer the Amtech 223
TPD-UV All for leaded solder.

The Amtech was genuine. Not the fake they sell on Ebay.

worked on quite a few of these over last few years, and only ever needed to reflow them.

ah sorry I misread it. I thought you had knocked the resistors off the top of the GPU, and well spotted it is a DV9000. Think the only sony board I have is a MBX-160.. But if I one first thing in the morning I will get a picture up.

Hi,

I had some problems with this chip in the beginning. Now i put kapton tape on the metal part of the chip. Then i preheat to 120 degrees and then reflow.

Very important is that you keep the time between liquid longer as usual. I use 70-80 secs. But keep your eye on the max temp during that time.

Make sure your have only one unkown factor. What i mean is that you could have corrupted the bios and are focussing on the chip.

HTH
