Easyer thing: use your usb port!
It has no current limiting, there is _allwas_ stable 5 volt from your mainboard! I use it too for driving my pana cable.

Ok, sounds a good idea but i got a SERIAL cable?

Is there a way to adapt this to include a USB power supply?

If you built your dadtacable, you have to solder the power input wires in the schematic to the usb 5v and gnd. if you bougth your cable, you have to find out where you have to put the external power to the pcb.
