GD87 Locked?

Hi

i have GD87(it's from vodafone, it has vodafone logos on it, the guy whom i bought it from said he used it with vodafone) and i can't use my new sim(meteor) with it, when i put it in and power on my phone, it asks for sim pass, i enter it and it doesn't let me enter any menus or anything but SOS and info menus and it only lets me ring 911, is it locked?

how to unlock it? is there a step-by-step manual?

what software, cables to do i need?

how does upgrading and downgrading of firmware work? how to do it? any cables?

any help will be appriciated
Thanks!

Yeah, it looks like it's locked - the Vodafone branded ones norrmally are. There is a lot of good information (if a bit unstructured) at http://www.seedwiki.com/page.cfm?doc...er&wikiid=2764
Most of the required software can be found fairly easily if you do a search on this board - if you're looking for firmware, there are several different versions at http://www.74bird.com/panasonic/

thank you very much TriMesh!

can you please help me once more?

i read on this forums that you have to enter 746 and click the ok button twice, that's where you enter the codes, i did that, i entered 746(without sim), and i got 5 menus

SIM
Network
SubNetwork
Operator
Corp

only network has an option, it's "unblock" i push it, and it says something like, unblock and then flashes to "contact the supplier" i can't i my friend gave it to me, i have only the phone, does that mean anything very bad? cause i heard it's supposed to give you the "password field" will a flashing help it?

Thanks!

That probably means that there have been too many incorrect unlock codes entered - you might be able to unblock it by entering 25625<menu><menu> and selecting the network option - if it works, you should get "unblocked" on the display, and you can then enter the unlock code using 746<menu><menu>

If that doesn't work, then you are probably stuck

Yeah - you should be fine now - start by getting the cracked GD87 unlocker (download from http://www.spunlock.biz/free/panasonicfree.html ) - password is "You". Isolate pins 4 and 10 on the data cable and connect it to COM1 (people have reported problems with other ports), and see if you can read the codes out. Most of the Voda GD87s were shipped with A16, so you should be fine. If you have firmware newer than A22, you will need to downgrade to get the reader to work correctly.
