Yes you can downgrade also you can either root it and it should write the cert... i havent done it myself but why dont you try...

just downgrade 6.0.1 to 5.0 connect mobile write cert easily with z3x without root..do not need to work *#0808# or *#9090#
or dm+adb+modem or anything else .cert write with mtp+ adb driver
