Correct, ABTPersistenceService is a system function and is not in the persist/persdata partions per se, but it seems to read/write some settings from those partitions. So the idea here is a properly wipe them out to force it into factory default mode without tripping the react lock.
Course the other route is to patch it in system partition, which is getting more difficult with lollipop and on...

p.s. to ecs87, been around since the mobile-files and early 2000 xda forums.

I've tried with xposed, but no success, maybe somebody with experience with it can do the trick

/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/persdata should be device independent, so it should work on any model

Can you check if service is running with service list | grep -i ABT
?
