For the 100th time. You do not need to root s4's. Just downgrade the modem to 4.2.2. then check old security box and do repair and/or unlock. Then put original modem back on. Simple as that.

here is what u need to do to get root
1. flash with odin nc1 kernel
2. put towelroot apk3 to phone and install it does not need internet connection, just make it rain.
3. flash with odin nj4 kernel
4. install supersu from playstore
5. disable knox and update binary and then u are good to go here are the files u need
I337_NC1_Stock_Kernel.tar
all 3 files are on the file. hope it works for you
