Downgrade them to the first released version of kitkat.

This will work. You have to downgrade to rootable 4.4.2 firmware. I have successfully rooted and unlocked i337 with Z3X and Towelroot many times.

Who told you to downgrade to 4.2.2? I said earlier versions of 4.4.2, that's what kitkat is.

try to flash custom recovery using odin and copy superSU V2.19.zip in sdcard and flash the recovery.......
